I think that butterflies appliqued on it would actually make me like it more, but I don't know how to applique. I've only been quilting 2 years....plus, this isn't really my quilt. I need to remember that. I would feel better if my friend hadn't wanted to wait until the whole quilt was done before she saw it. I don't think I will agree to that again. I'll just send pictures and show as I go...if I do this again, that is. :)

In just reread the comments and I am jumping on the line how I am worrying too much. I certainly am. No more worrying, just get the quilt finished. :)

Mariposa 08-07-2011 09:10 AM

Very pretty!

n2stitches 08-07-2011 10:02 AM

It is beautiful. Great fabric selection. Pattern is perfect to showcase the butterflies. I love it!

bobquilt3 08-07-2011 12:20 PM

The quilt is lovely. Sometimes the "work" on a quilt gets in the way of the big picture. Doing small pieces and not see the whole, can obscure it's beauty. Put it together on your wall from time to time and try to see the finished top, if only in your mind. I find that helps me.

GV09 08-07-2011 01:26 PM

I love it! You did a great job!

MargeD 08-07-2011 01:35 PM

I think it looks great and I love the butterfly fabric. Your friend will love it.

CAS49OR 08-07-2011 02:05 PM

I went through the same thing! In fact, I procrastinated seriously, worried they might not like the quilt! By the time I got done I was just happy to see it go!

They really liked it, all is well.

The same here, you're doing great, don't let the "doubt" demons get you!

serenitybygrace 08-07-2011 02:33 PM

I have some of that butterfly fabric. It is wonderful worked into your quilt with the blue and white. It is beautiful!

FarmStitcher 08-07-2011 03:09 PM

I love that pattern and want to make three of them for Christmas. You're doing a great job on it and I would just make what she wants.
Could you or someone else tell us the name of the pattern, Please? ;-) :-D

The easiest way would be to take a piece of your butterfly fabric & iron it onto some Wonderunder or something like it,(Wonderunder is actually too heavy, see if you can find something lighter.) Then you cut some butterfly's out. Take the paper off & iron these where you want 'em. Then you use either the buttonhole stitch or satin stitch to go around 'em. You could cut some out & scatter 'em around to see how they look. You could also try some out on a sample to see how you like doing it. Whatever you decide this is still a pretty quilt.

It's very cheerful!

dphelps 08-07-2011 05:34 PM

I don't see why you would not like it. The colors are beautiful, especially the blue. Don't worry, your friend will love it. And she will love you also for being so kind as to make this for her.

Rose Ann 08-07-2011 05:42 PM

The butterfly squares make it look like the blue and white surround an open space and the backing peeks through. It's a great quilt!

sewnbug 08-07-2011 06:11 PM

It's lovely. I'm sure she will love it.

RobertaMarie 08-07-2011 06:34 PM

Whats not to like, it's very pretty.

Cottontop 08-08-2011 01:14 PM

Great work...you're an artist...and, if she likes the colors as is...fine! but I really like your work.

Sandi19 08-08-2011 01:22 PM

Here is what I've found when I give a quilt to a friend. They love it because YOU made it for them. My first quilt was made for my best friend when her husband died. She cried so hard when she got it that I could barely understand her on the phone. She treasures the quilt and it is so poorly made...but because I made it out of love for her and her husband's memory, she thinks it is perfect. A friend will love that you gave of your time and effort to make something. Trust me.

Dina 08-08-2011 01:59 PM

Thanks again, all. I have now sewn the borders on and am trying to decide how to quilt it. I have decided that I do like it. I am always so hard on myself because I simply can't visualize the final product. It is like every quilt is a mystery to me because I never know how it is going to turn out.

I really hope my friend likes it, and I think she will. She did pick out the pattern and fabric, and I am guessing that she was able to visualize what it would look like. I really envy those of you who can do that. I have only been quilting 2 years, maybe I will be able to do that in time. :)

rosequilter 08-08-2011 11:01 PM

Wow! This looks dynamite!

gramarraine 08-09-2011 07:03 AM

Your quilt is lovely. I seem to be like you and not really like what I am working on until it is done and I can see the finished project. Maybe sometimes we just need to have someone elses input.

Meme2six 08-09-2011 12:30 PM

I love it! I love anything with butterflies on it and the contrasting fabrics look great with the print.

I agree, it's beautiful. Quilt it with butterflies in matching blue thread!!
