How about New York Beauty? It is a paper pieced pattern, but lends itself to this type of fabric. I am jealous!!
|
Most of the Asian batiks (Malaysian, Indonesian, Thai) are meant to be worn as skirts or scarves. They are worn in a certain way, in which the patterns are displayed to their full advantage.
If you want to use them for quilt, maybe just have a medallion style, with the main pattern as the center and then use complimentary colors to surround them. |
Mona Lisa - why don't you send me your breathtakingly beautiful spiral lonestar center and I'll be more than happy to accentuate it with some of those gorgeous fabrics I have....then I'll just keep it, okay? :!: :D

So many great ideas! Erica's has that Counterpoint pattern, it's lovely: http://www.ericas.com/quilting/patterns/misc2.htm

Stunning!..However I am still considered a newbie at quilting I wouldn't know the best way to use them..I can't stop looking at them..thank you for sharing..Please post again and let us all see what you did with them..
|
Two of the prints could be used as border fabrics and then any design that you like with you using the colors in the border. in the body of the quilt.I have made a lot of quilts starting with the border not always was the binding the same fabric.
|
I just did a search on the New York Beauty (gorgeous, by the way). Is this a variation of the Montana Cartwheel? I have been wanting to do a Montana Cartwheel for several years and was wondering about that particular pattern. If I remember correctly however, there is alot of fabric waste when paper piecing that. With these gorgeous fabrics, I would be sad to lose small pieces to the wastecan.

Do a large dresden plate with each piece possibly on a black background, then sash with a gold. They are just beautiful pieces of fabric and what a wonderful story you will have to tell when they come together in a quilt. What fun!!!

I think s couple of them are just screaming out to be made into purses -- with lots and lots of beads, of course!

There are several books: Big Print quilts, Nine patch Pizzazz, maybe use for One Block wonders.

Some of the fabric on the bottom look like African material. I am in the process of making a quilt with African cloth. I am using the "snowball" pattern as then I can get the benefit of the cloth design with a plain material setting it off. I haven't finished it yet, but I think I am going to reqally like it.

Wow ! They are beautiful.

I've been contemplating doing Around the Twist with big snowball blocks to showcase some floral fabric that's not nearly as nice as yours!

Bags and more bags!! (my favorite activity.)

They are so very beautiful.

I was thinking BQ quilt too. It showcases the fabrics so well.
|
I suggest you look at a couple of Kaffe Facett's quilt books. He uses very busy and bright fabrics together to create stunning effects. You might get some ideas there.
|
beautiful fabrics, hope you find a great pattern to showcase them
|
Send them to me ! I love them. You could make a really cool purse. I think you should loo up some Indonesians quilts. Enjoy

I made Shadow Box last year and the pattern shows off beautiful fabrics because large pieces are used against a plain backgrounds. I am jealous...............

I think everyone responding here has the same problem as I do.......a fabric-o-holic!!! Those fabric vendors would be trembling with joy if we all went shopping at the same time :)

The Chinese lantern is a beautiful pattern & would let each of the fabrics shine and be noticeable. Just my opinion, but I think the Bento Box would only jumble them all together and would not show off the beauty of each fabric. Everyone has their own taste. I hope you can find a pattern that you love for these beautiful fabrics. Have fun.
|
Actually those two were my first choices - (Chinese and Bento box) - I have a couple of other projects ahead of these however, so am writing down those ideas and will start this fall on the project. I love the Montana Cartwheel/New York Beauty, but think that might be too busy. I have used one of the Indonesian batiks in another quilt and I have noticed it has a definite different "feel" to it than the other fabrics. It is much much softer - which made it difficult to cut and work with. Spray starch helped alittle bit - but it was a bit nerve wracking that it was so different from the other fabrics I was using.

Warm Wishes has a lot of big pieces... gorgeous fabrics, you lucky person!

Wow! Love those fabrics! You can send them to me! I know what to do with scraps! :D There are endless patterns to showcase these beauties! Oh what fun I could have with those! Drool, drool, drool....Enjoy to the max!! :D :D :!:

I'll be interested to see any suggestions. I've just been given 3 x 2metre lengths of Malaysian batiks, which are beautiful, but nothing has popped out at me yet.

It would look great in a stain glass pattern, all those beautiful
colors. Good luck and GOD bless. |
Your fabrics need large cut pieces to really highlight. I found this free Amy Butler pattern with more style and shape that just large blocks. Maybe a idea??

Just took another look at your fabrics and the above pattern idea. The strip piecing background could be of batik strip or tone-on-tones with the Asian shape highlighted by them. You could even use several of your fabrics with similar colors in the same quilt.
Just thinking??!! |

If you don't have enough printed fabric, use plain colors to make either the Ohio stars or the alternating blocks.... At least it might be a start? |
I saw this picture and had such a happy memory! I have the exact same fabric as the two in the foreground, purchased in Bali, 1998. It too took me forever to use them, as I 'needed' to save them. I finally used them (and several others)as solid arches in an appliqued Dould Wedding Ring wallhanging, against a sage green background. There were nine rings, and I called it Balinese Rings. It was given to a friend, I'll have to see if she can send me a picture.
|
I'm so glad to read all the suggestions because we also have a "stash" of Malaysian Batiks gifts from my husband while he was traveling in the Asian Rim years ago. I've used several pieces for backs on quilts allowing me to keep the patterns intact, creating a two sided quilt - pieced on one side & whole cloth on the flip side.
|
I brought back some traditional batiks when I returned from my latest trip to Bali (in March), which are similar to these. I think patterns with large pieces will work well - I think fussy-cutting the designs will look nice!!
