I sell my stuff to a store in Kalona Iowa which is an Amish area. What i was told by the Amish that live there is that there are differant rules for differant areas of Amish. The color preferences vary from Iowa to Pennsylvania etc. In the books they sell about the Amish and their quilting this is mentioned. It is said to be a practice so God will see that they are not being prideful. If they put in a mistake then God will know and so will others that they practice humilty in all they do. I can't quote the book I got that from but it was in Yoder's where I sell my stuff. And I talked with some Amish ladies who were hand quilting in the local bank( it was fascinating watching them hand quilt) and the lady I talked to said yes they do put in a mistake on purpose to show humility.
But areas may vary on this.

Eddie love your quilt! I tend to shy away from plaids and stripes but I like the randomness of your quilt! Maybe i should explore the plaids again.....
I tend to want the plaids to be perfectly straight and i get frustrated when i can't get them to stay that way.

What a great quilt! I love the fabrics. It's a manly quilt, but very contemporary. You did a great job. Make more!

I think it's a great quilt. And does have a touch of masculinity to it.

What a beaut.....uh, er, HANDSOME quilt, Eddie! And I may not watch enough TV to recognize Patrice's quote, but I like it too! I had to look reeeeeealy hard to find any "wonky" squares. And even then, it took me a while to figure out what you meant. So, it's all good!

I do like it. It looks so cozy. And in our area the Amish do also put in a mistake on purpose. I have had convo's with them as well.

Really great quilt! The plaids are awesome!

Oh--very nice! The colors are calming. I never worry about stripes--I just cut. :D

I asked my husband for years if I could make him a quilt--he always said no. UNTIL I asked if he wanted a Civil War reproduction quilt... THAT got his attention. I finished it a few months ago--just in time for summer.

Your avatar photo is wonderful.
