Finished this one today. 40x28 all cotton.
I used to think I was a green girl, but these bright hues of Autumn just thrill me. But I think it's time to move on.

I took a little trip over to your blog to see your process in making this quilt and all I can say is "Wow"! Yes, I know, it's just three letters and an over used word at that but it really fits. I do love how you take the reader through the steps both the actual physical process and your thought processes. Thanks for that.

Beautiful colorss

GingerK 11-16-2016 02:15 PM

I too decided to visit your blog. Thank you for chronicling the steps from inspiration to final rendition. Your pieces are always spectacular but this one really speaks to me. I adore the beautiful autumn foliage and you have captured it perfectly. Having a wee glimpse into the thoughts and processes involved, makes it even more special. WOW just does not say enough.

(Would your hubby be willing to share his chicken stock recipe??)

tessagin 11-16-2016 02:21 PM

Gorgeous1 Love the colors!

zozee 11-16-2016 02:21 PM

It's so realistic I mistook it for a photo!

The secret is plenty of Backs and Feet! We usually hit the oriental markets. And thanks for the feedback!

Just gorgeous, very realistic wonderful work.

QM 11-16-2016 02:47 PM

magnificent quilt.

GingerK 11-16-2016 02:50 PM

Thank you!! For a moment when I first read your reply, I was trying to figure out how your back and/or feet made your autumn scene so spectacular. DUH!! Does he just toss in the feet or skin them, roast them, or something else?? I always toss my backs into a hot oven for a while to get the roasted taste.

(BTW my go-to is the carcass and skin from a commercial BBQ chicken--one meal from the breast, pull off all the rest of the meat and put aside to add to my Chicken Dump Soup and throw everything else into a crockpot overnight for stock)

When we have it we throw in as much fat as possible. It really adds to the month feel or the UMAMI which is the catch phase for flavour these days!

Wow, absolutely amazing.

GingerK 11-16-2016 04:16 PM

Thanks MaryKatherine. Will be picking up some chicken feet next time I'm in Brampton.

As part of a guild challenge, I've been planning to make a very similar wall hanging after the new year after many searches and looking at various aspen photos/quilts/designs. I find I'm having trouble locating the right aspen trunk fabric. Can you tell me where you found yours, the brand, etc.? Or do you have any left, even a small amount that I might buy or trade for? Thanks in advance. I LOVE this piece you've posted!

That is fantastic, so colorful and creative

Yooper32 11-17-2016 06:32 AM

You never cease to amaze and delight me.

Yooper32 11-17-2016 06:35 AM

Jan, surely you should have been able to find it with Patchwork Plus at your doorstep, or thereabouts?? I dream of going there often and it is a good thing that I can't go often as there are so many fabrics I just can't resist.

hcarpanini 11-17-2016 06:53 AM

Beautiful! Is it a pattern or your own?

Bug Lady 11-17-2016 07:48 AM

WOW, stunning, and warms my heart! Thanks for sharing.

This particular fabric I painted and as I like to tell my friends YOU CAN TOO. This is spatter painted using a permanent fabric paint. I use Seta Colour, DHMARA trading carries it but I've also used ink pencils and ink blocks that can be found at either good craft stores or art supply stores. More people need to adopt my mantra I CAN DO THIS. I included a pic of the full metre I did last month. You can also get a really good affect using just a black crayon. Trust me on this one. It's not magic. When you cut a thin slice, that's when the magic happens. Good luck!

BrendaK 11-17-2016 11:14 AM

Awesome. But then your things are always "AWESOME". BrendaK

Oh I so agree...MK's blog is one of the highlights of my day. :-)

That is just so life-like. The tree trunk fabric is amazing.

Jane Quilter 11-17-2016 05:12 PM

I agree. The tree trunks caught my eye and I could not look away. Ingenious work.

Always think the landscape quilts look so beautiful but am a little apprehensive about trying them. Your quilt is beautiful. Thanks for sharing. The warm yellows just make you feel good when you look at the project.
