Just wanted to share another one of Maya's quilts.
(Maya, 9 years of age) She made it by herself, Grandma just helped with the snipping.
Maya went to her first quilt show at the end of January, she loved it! She fell in love with the fabric for this quilt, so of course, we had to purchase the kit. Here's the finished product with Maya and her brother Michael showing it off.

:)

Sheila Elaine 02-27-2010 04:11 PM

Is this Laurel Burch fabric that Maya used? Her quilt is fabulous & her & Michael are two kids. Tell them hello.

coastienest 02-27-2010 04:14 PM

Wonderful job. The fabric looks to be as much fun as the children do. Starting at 9 years old only means she will be right up there with the best of the quilters someday. You should be very proud of her !!!!

What cute kids! Maya did a wonderful job and she looks so proud. That would make a great glow in the dark quilt. Yes, I was a teen in the 70's.

Ilovemydogs 03-02-2010 09:01 AM

That is awesome!

Ramona Byrd 03-02-2010 03:16 PM

That was lovely. What a way to start out in life, doing such a
marvelous thing.

Now, it's Michael's turn. Let him make what he wants, just to get
him started, and addicted!!!
I taught my 9 year old grandson to sew, he made himself a night
shirt like Grandpas, since both of them hate pajamas.

Now he is married and the father of a 5 year old, who has worn out
grandson's old night shirt, but I don't think GS's wife can sew. Have
to wait till they visit, then I'll get my hands on my GGS..and we'll
have fun!!

bstanbro 03-02-2010 05:09 PM

Very pretty. Love those bright colors. The flannel should make it nice and cozy.

Oh Maya I am so impressed. You are so lucky to be starting so young. I cann't imagine what you will be creating in 10 or 20 years. Great job.

Honey 03-02-2010 09:59 PM

zz-pd 03-02-2010 10:53 PM

That is so neat, Its so nice to see children learn. She did a wonderful job. Penny

azam 03-03-2010 09:22 AM

Thank you for all the wonderful comments. Yes, I am very proud of her. She's been sewing since she was 5 years old but has only been quilting for about 2 years. She's already made, approximately 10 or more quilts. She's donated most of them to various charities (children's hospice, cancer association, etc.) Some she's made for her teacher's. You can see some of these on this forum, do a search for "Great job, Maya". She's got the quilting bug at her young age so I think she's hooked for life. I may have to invest in a better quality sewing machine for her soon, she's still using her Mini Janome.

I'm not sure if this was Laurel Burch fabric. It was already cut into strips when we purchased the kit and there is no mention of it on the instructions.

Thank you again!!! :-D

kacy 49 03-03-2010 05:00 PM
