Ok. I did it again I hit the thrift shop today. It is a good thing there are only 2 shops in my town and 1 I don't shop cause I don't like paying new prices for used stuff. I got a bag full of scraps for one dollar. Thought I would share, if you all ever get tired of my thrift shop finds just tell me. I used an orange to show how much is there.

Wow, you sure do great at these thrift stores!

raptureready 05-05-2010 11:53 AM

Super, I have some of that black flowered fabric too. It was one of my favorites.

KGoodhand 05-05-2010 12:09 PM

Makes me want to hit the two thrift stores I have in town!!!

Crafty1 05-05-2010 12:15 PM

Wow, that's great! I went to one today and they want 50 cents a piece.... You got a bargain!

cjomomma 05-05-2010 12:20 PM

They tried to raise the prices on fabric when they thought WM was taking out the fabrics and no one would buy it. So the prices have dropped back down. BTW our WM kept some fabrics.

CarrieAnne 05-05-2010 12:20 PM

WooHoo! I love thrift stores...wish I had more time to visit them, you found some goodies!

Bevanger 05-05-2010 12:30 PM

Way Cool Kiddo..... I went today hoping to find a Non Stick egg poaching pan. Didn't find one so looked for favric. No luck....

seamstress 05-05-2010 12:44 PM

I think it's great when a quilter finds a buy like you did.
I just wished I could find buys like that.

Candace 05-05-2010 12:55 PM

Good for you. You know how to burn test for cottons? I do that on fabric I'm not sure about.

ann clare 05-05-2010 12:56 PM

WOW You sure got value for money.

cjomomma 05-05-2010 12:57 PM

No I don't. Please tell me how. Tho I generally use what feels good to my fingers.

Candace 05-05-2010 01:01 PM

You take a small piece and burn it. If it all turns to ash it's cotton. If there is some twisted hard pieces left there's polyester or some kind of non-cotton material in it. I've tested material I thought was for certain cotton...and it wasn't.

Thanks, I will have to give it a try.

pretty find!

sharon b 05-05-2010 07:29 PM

I want to go live by you  Ours never have anything like that

nursie76 05-05-2010 07:33 PM

You are so lucky! I keep hitting the thrift stores in the different towns I visit weekly to see clients, and they just don't seem to have fabric. Did get a 1/2 gallon plastic bag of nice sized moda fabric scraps for 50 cents, but then went and spend $$$ on coordinating fabrics so I would have enough to make something....I think I defeated the savings...

cjomomma 05-05-2010 07:56 PM

I used to be able to find tons of fabric but the other quilter and even the omish discovered my secret. So now I am finding less and less but I will still keep looking.

wvdek 05-05-2010 08:11 PM

Scrappy quilt here she comes.

Gramof6 05-05-2010 09:10 PM

You did great! I never see fabric in Thrift Shops here. Never. I'm happy for you. Keep on shopping girl! Get it ever chance you can.

quiltinghere 05-06-2010 03:28 AM

Great find! I don't see bags of fabric at our stores either.

You have to be very opened minded when shopping in a thrift/resale store or garage sales. Make your list (on paper or mentally) and keep shopping and watching for what you "NEED". It gives you another reason to go shopping more often.

mimee4 05-06-2010 08:55 AM

You know a great thrift shop. Good for you. Lots of fun quiting ahead.

MamaBear61 05-06-2010 09:09 AM

Way to go, you will be busy for a while.

StitchnFind 05-06-2010 10:21 AM

Wow thats a great find. I dont have any luck either at my thrift shop so i go to the yard sales. There i can get some great bargains but you have to go early to get them.

JJean 05-06-2010 10:23 AM

Holy Cow! Lucky Ducky! :D

Oklahoma Suzie 05-06-2010 01:56 PM

nice haul

magpiefeather 05-06-2010 03:32 PM

You did great! I love the thrift stores for finding fabric. Just have to time it right! I have a large collection of double knit poly quilts and love finding chunks of double poly fabric to finish them.

I find poly fabric all the but I never buy it.

cjomomma 05-06-2010 03:41 PM

We were suppose to have the city wide yard sales last weekend but it stormed instead. Hopefully they do it again, I am also a yard sale junkie. If there is a bargain to be had I will search til I find it. I guess it is from being poor so I have to find the best prices. If I was rich I would still be looking for the bargains. It is just the way I roll I guess. Thank you everyone for indulging me with my finds, I don't have too many to share them with.

Gal 05-06-2010 04:11 PM

cjo momma, no I won't get tired of seeing your treasured finds as you do exactly what I do and I love it!!!!!!! I have fun and a great deal of satisfaction in making my quilts from Op shop finds, it makes it much more challenging but I love scrappy quilts so I am in my element. In fact I got a couple of bargins yesterday as I had to visit the city for an eye appointment. I can only get to go once a week but boy have I got some great fabrics, yesterdays were Retro from the 70's! My stash (if you could call it that) is 99% Op shop finds and 1% sales special fabric.

Gal

cjomomma 05-06-2010 04:37 PM

Thank you Gal. You could show your find to us too. Heck post them on here with mine. I would love to see them. Maybe I should start a thread on showing your bargains. What do you think.

earthwalker 05-06-2010 04:41 PM

I love to see everyone's "finds" and yes if I won the lottery tomorrow, I'd still be buying my vintage and retro clothes and thrift store rummaging to supplement my stash.

buffy2 05-06-2010 05:16 PM

I would like to find a thrift shop like that

jljack 05-06-2010 05:20 PM

SCORE!!!!! ;) ;)

annette1952 05-06-2010 05:30 PM

Awesome find. I need to check our Good Will. That would be exciting to find a bunch of fabric for $1.00

littlehud 05-06-2010 08:17 PM

Wow, what a buy. Don't stop sharing. I love your finds.

lavandula girl 05-06-2010 09:03 PM

I think it's hysterical that you got all that gingham! I recently received a big stash as a bequest to Project Linus, and it had at least 25 yards of gingham in tons of colors. (who knew BROWN gingham existed!?). Somewhere, the Gingham Gods are rubbing their hands together and saying "I told you we'd come around again!" Hahaha!! Excellent haul.

Pickles 05-06-2010 09:48 PM

O I love your pics of your Thrift Shop finds , I'm so happy to see others like me here on the board that doesn't mind
shopping for the bargains and being thrilled at what we find. I'm the same way if I woke up rich tomorrow I'd still shop at the
Thrift Shops and yard sales and Goodwill's, they are my kind of
fun :D

rootyr 05-07-2010 01:54 AM

Great find!

foxxigrani 05-07-2010 06:29 AM

I love your finds. If everyone gets tired of them you can still show me pictures, I will never tire of them, all of my adult life has been thrift store shopping. I love it when I get something really good and can use it, for such a small price. Most of my shopping when I was younger was out of necessity, now its just for fun. Love it. Love what you found. Great find.

Rita
