Meet "Doc", my peacock quilt

this is "Doc". He's named after my grandpa who was a doctor and had peacocks on his farm. I made Doc himself many years ago in a class, learning to use metallic threads in the bobbin. He was done on a black fat quarter.

Timeless Treasures is now making a line of fabric called Plume, so I used that to make the background. I decided to cut away the background of Doc and will applique him on. I'm quilting each row of fabric with a different quilting pattern. The first row has my tissue paper pinned to it right now for a stipple design.

Beautiful, great job! Isn't it hard to remove the tissue paper after you are done stippling?

removing the tissue paper isn't hard, as long as the stitching isn't really dense. It tears away very easily. I use this method a lot instead of marking on the quilt itself. I've had problems with some of the marking tools not coming off the quilt completely and leaving lines. So I'm leary of them, especially on a quilt that won't/can't be washed.

Thanks for all the kudos! I will definitely post a picture of Doc when he's done.

Here is Doc, all done! He turned out to be 4' wide and 2' tall. As I finished the binding, I added in wire to help him hold his shape. He's now in my bedroom, so I can enjoy him every day.
