Meet the quilted Ginormous Ugly Bag lol

I just finished my quilted lunch tote, aka "ginormous ugly bag" (it's big enough to hold my lunch, water, my RA braces and some other things).
Long story but I got the fabric for someone else who decided they didn't like it, so I decided to use it. And I used up all of it.
It's a thicker cotton. No pattern just sewing by the seat of my pants and trying techniques new to me (such as sewing with PUL and zippers - why don't zippers just stay put???)
Normally I don't follow the credo of 'done is better than perfect' but I did in this case. Not my favorite project but it'll be used.

That is an awesome bag! You did wonders without a pattern. Enjoy using it.

Agree that this is "interesting" fabric. But, you found a perfect purpose for it. Terrific coordinate fabric (handles etc.) Now, how do you not over load it making it too heavy to tote/haul around? https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png Congrats on a task well done.

WMUTeach, perhaps she could put some wheels under it and attach a long handle. The weight was a concern to me, also.

Looks very functional.
I think the idea of putting it on a "cart/wheels" is an excellent one.

Very nice bag and so useful. Good job making it.

Really nice looking bag. I love how you designed it "by the seat of your pants". I do this quite often when making custom things for the family.

I have made bags for fishing, laptops, iPads, jumper cables, PlayStation console all without a pattern to start with. My husband's work vests are made freehand. So are his work aprons since a lot of customization has to be done on each one. He has one for woodwork and everyday usage and one for metalworking.

I think you did a great job, especially considering that you didn't use a pattern. Nice looking recessed zipper and smart to use webbing to make the straps strong. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/thumbup.png

I wouldn't call it "ugly" at all - but it looks like "ginormous" fits. ;)

Great bag!

Yeah, that's more sewing talent than I'll ever have! :) I can't imagine making a bag let alone just throwing one together to suit what I need to carry! Satisfaction in getting exactly what you need, I'm sure!
