Memories of My Father
 

I recently took an online course with Annette Kennedy on Craftsy. This is my finished project.
My Dad always had Calla Lilies in our garden, so that is how I named it. I was intimidated by the stitching, so it sat for a long time before I finished. It was in our Guild Show this weekend and now it is on my wall in my living room.

This is exquisite in design and execution. I can see why you waited to quilt it, I too would want to make sure my skills for quilting were up to par for this beautiful piece. You did a wonderful job and I am glad you finally completed it and shared it with us. Is it fabric painted? Is that how you got the remarkable shading?

This is an amazing form of quilting! lt appears that you've used fabric painting to add realism, then used raw edge applique. Is this shading what you took in the Craftsy class?

Lovely, lovely, lovely. Beautiful shading on the flower itself - I'll bet that was a bear to fussy cut. Perfect quilting to bring it to life. You did an awesome job.

Simply beautiful....

Just to clarify this was not fussy cut. The lily, leaf and stems were cut from relatively plain fabrics, pale yellow and two greens. All of the shading, veins, etc. we're done with transparent fabric so that the original colour shows through in places. The shapes were ironed on using Heat & Bond, then painted, then stitched.
i'm not sure how to post a picture at this point but will try to add one of the piece before painting.
