What a wonderful keepsake!

geckos42 08-07-2011 12:54 PM

What a loving gesture and a remarkably special quilt! It will surely be comforting (in many ways) as she reminisces about the individual shirt fabrics - the occasions when he wore them, how he looked in them, which were his favorites, etc. All wonderful memories in the making. Kudos to you!

How very thoughtful and kind of you to make this for her. I have tears in my eyes just thinking of the joy this will bring her.

I have done one of these for my grandson with all the grandpas shirts on both sides. Even managed to find a few for the great grandpas. He loves it and uses it every day. I removed the pockets of the shirts first and embroidered each grandpas name on them and appliqued them to the back.

What a fabulous quilt, I'm sure she will treasure it.

She is really going to love it. How fortunate for you that he wore such a variety of patterns. It certainly is not boring. I am a plaid lover so it is really nice to me. My husband is not into clothes AT ALL and wears things till I'm almost embarrassed to be seen with him. And he'll let nice shirts just hang in the closet cause he doesn't need them yet.

dawn payne 08-07-2011 05:22 PM

I found out today that my Aunt was visiting my Uncle's grave site so I met her and my cousin there and presented her the quilt, of course she cried.

Surely some of those tears were tears of joy too. How fitting that you presented it to her at his grave site. I'd like to think your uncle saw it and smiled. I'm so touched by your story. What a loving gift. I hope the quilt comforts your aunt - in many ways. Bless you.

What a wonderful tribute. I'm sure your aunt will treasure it.
