This is my first attempt at making a memory quilt. It was a challenge, to be sure. I have more of the border fabric to make the backing. Just need to get it quilted and the binding on before the 20th of October. I can DO this! Hope you all like it. It will be a birthday present for my son.

How nice is that! I love that you made something different that what we usually see. The circles are wonderful and the colors are very masculine. He's gonna love it.

What a great surprise for him. How did you do your pictures? Did you print them directly onto the fabric or transfer them on?

I printed the pictures using Printed Treasures printable fabric.

Thank you for all the nice comments. I'm a fairly new quilter, so it does my heart good. I will put an updated photo here, once I get it quilted and get the binding done.

The idea to put the pictures in the circles was my idea! :-D , but the circles were there in the pattern... so, yes and no ;)

The pictures are pieced into the black squares. It was a lot of work, and I think if I do another one of these, I will stick to the squares and rectangles. :? I printed the pictures out and then cut the cirlces out in the black fabric and pieced the pictures into the circle. It was done with freezer paper, cutting, clipping, cutting, sewing... and a LOT of patience. It was sure worth it though! :-)

i can also see where this would be quite a challenge!

raptureready 08-24-2010 07:23 AM

That's one of the neatest I've ever seen! I love the way the pictures seem to be in floating bubbles.

What an inspiration...I am just getting ready to start a quilt for my nephew as wedding gift (my first one). And I am going to put photos of both him and his wife. THIS IS MY FIRST ONE. I haven't figured out how to graph it out yet. My thought is to start from the center and work to the outside. Hope I am right. :)

I'm sure it will be beautiful, no matter how you do it. What a fabulous wedding gift!

Beautiful quilt

quilt3311 08-25-2010 04:38 AM

What a cleaver idea doing the pictures in circles. He should treasure this forever. Can't see the pictures real clear on the screen, but he looks like a very handsome young man.

colorfulgrammy 08-25-2010 05:39 AM

What a great present. You'll have it done in plenty of time.

Dkm 08-25-2010 05:42 AM

Very neat, but the best part, I bet was looking at all those pictures and making a memory for you.

quilter68 08-25-2010 07:58 AM

That is the first memory quilt that I like. Choice of color is good and bright but the circles make it the best in my humble opinion.
