Just like kids, every furbaby has a place in your heart that belongs to her/him alone... Last year we made the right, but difficult, decision for my Newfoundland, Samantha. It is so sad that we don't get as much time with the giant breeds as our little guys.

I love the colors in this small wall hanging. The camera does not do them justice.

Ditter

skavanau 05-28-2010 02:22 PM

Its beautiful. Is the picture of the pup a copy on material or is that sewn? Very nice idea. I lost my Jedd last year after 17 years, I still miss him..

littlehud 05-28-2010 02:30 PM

That is beautiful. I'm so sorry about your fur baby. There is never enough time with them.

DeneK 05-28-2010 02:39 PM

I got the Newfie fabric from www.hotdiggitydog.com
They have a lot of breed specific fabric.

bearisgray 05-28-2010 02:59 PM

It's a lovely wall hanging.

It is so hard to see our fur-babies ailing and to let them go.

Hugs.

A beautiful work of art, and a lovely way to remember Samantha.

dkabasketlady 05-28-2010 03:54 PM

Sorry to hear about your loss! My DSIL & DBIL raise these wonderful dogs! They live in PA. if you're ever interested in another one, good blood line too! They also have five of their own!

Pam 05-28-2010 04:18 PM

Very pretty. So sorry for your loss, it is never easy.

sharon b 05-28-2010 04:41 PM

Now she will always be near you ... What a touching tribute

no1jan 05-28-2010 04:42 PM

What a beautiful memory you have. Beautiful job!

gaigai 05-28-2010 04:42 PM

I know she's still in your heart. And your quilt is beautiful and reflects the love you shared.

Mamagus 05-28-2010 04:57 PM

Lief and Cabot the last two Newfs my hubby's family owned were very young dogs when they were put down. How long did you get with Samantha?

Jim's Gem 05-28-2010 05:23 PM

What a beautiful remembrance!!!

wvdek 05-28-2010 05:34 PM

What a nice remembrance.

DeneK 05-28-2010 06:34 PM

5 Newfs -- what a dream come true. I do love this breed; however -- I should have had her 20 years ago. I'm really too old now for the giant dogs. Guess for now, I'll stick to the little guys. But, boy oh boy, for just a moment, I sure gave thought to looking them up.

DeneK 05-28-2010 06:38 PM

Mamagus -- Sam would have been 8 this summer. Really sad to lose these guys so young.

JanetM 05-28-2010 06:39 PM

That is a beautiful wall hanging. I am so sorry Samantha had to leave you. All of us pet owners know how hard it is to lose our sweeties. I don't think you ever get over missing them.

T-Bones mom 05-28-2010 07:17 PM

So sorry to hear of your loss. I lost my sweet baby last November and I miss him dearly. You never have enough time with your pets. That is a beautiful quilt. I am going to check out the site and see what they have for labs. Thank you for sharing the name of the site where you got the fabric. Time will heal your loss but we never forget. Love is eternal for our sweet babies. God bless you.

You did really good to get 8 years. Can't think of one that I know that was/is older than that!

I come from their land! And breeders are very rare here now. Most Newfs are bred in the U.S. and Germany now.

paintedquilt 05-29-2010 05:23 AM

Beautiful tribute :-P

mimee4 05-29-2010 05:43 AM

So sorry your Samantha is gone, but what a beautiful memory to have. Your work of love is exquisite.

koko51puff 05-29-2010 06:08 AM

What a wonderful way to keep the memory of a beloved pet and family member alive. You know how much she would have loved to sleep on that! Newfies are so loving. The quilt is really beautiful.

CarrieAnne 05-29-2010 06:12 AM

Aw, newfies are so nice!

sylvia77 05-29-2010 11:52 AM

I lost my black lab 6 months ago, he was only 7. Then a month after that another one of my dogs had to be put down. It's been a sad and lonely place without them. I also made two quilts for them in memory of them. I'm sorry for your loss and your quilt is beautiful.

Linda B 05-29-2010 12:25 PM

We lost our Leonburger several years ago and are still not over it. He was only 6 yrs old. (Newfies were one of 3 breeds used to develop this breed.) The giant breeds are truly gentle giants and the most loving dogs I've ever known. I hope your tribute to Samanta gives you comfort as you remember her. It is quite beautiful.

DeneK 05-29-2010 02:37 PM

Thanks so much to everyone for your kind comments...

Deezie 05-29-2010 04:25 PM

Very nice memory. I love those dogs.

Butterflyspain 05-29-2010 05:00 PM

That is just precious. I love it. A friend here in Spain has 3 Newfoundlands and they are wonderful gentle giants, she lost one last year but has replaced him with another who would have been doomed to abandonment had she not found him.

Its beautiful and you can cherish you pet forever

Annz 05-29-2010 08:22 PM

wow!! what a great tribute

I totally agree. What a nice remembrance. My dog has been gone almost 11 years and I still miss him. I want another one but I think my cats will vehemently object!!

cindygale 05-30-2010 03:18 PM

sewbusy 05-30-2010 05:49 PM

Great quilt, I know we lost 2 labs in one year about 6 years ago, it is hard.

As I read this it warmed my heart to know that even in your friend's grief she offered a home to another dog who would have been abandoned. Thanks for sharing such a nice post :)

skjquiltnut 05-31-2010 07:16 AM

Lovely quilt. So sorry for your loss. Don't know how I could handle losing my little Shiz "poo".

cbuchanan 05-31-2010 08:15 AM

It was meant for me to see this today of all days. I've just walked in from taking my 13 yr old pup to vet with congestive heart failure so I know, but can't yet accept, that I won't have her much longer. The grief is unbearable. But I take a lot of comfort seeing what you have done and I know in my heart that I will make one for Buttons. Thank you for sharing and my heart goes out to you and all the people in Sam's life that she filled with joy.
