What a great idea. I have a pincushion exchange coming up at my quilt guild. This would be a great one to make.

Hi Missy, how you doing?

Carrie...

Five dollars is very reasonable. I would certainly buy one from you!

I am doing great. I am 6 weeks post-op and feeling better everyday. I have lost, since I started this whole journey, more than 100 pounds. It is not the pounds that is so cool to me, it is the inches! I am able to wear clothes from Wally World!! First time in maybe 15 years(?). That was literally a HUGE moment for me. Don't get me wrong...I still have a massive amount of weight to lose but seeing the numbers drop is very rewarding. I have no regrets when it comes to me having had the surgery.

Anyway...I am doing well and sure do think about you and little man often. Big hugs!!

Missy

I love these I have never seen these little ones I made mine out of jam jars and store the extra pins inside best thing I ever made and the easiest ~ no seams :P

I could not believe how spendy those flat jars are..wow...

I roll up left over batting and gather the fabric using upholstery thread then tie the thread in a knot. I like the upholstery thread because regular thread will break when pulled tight.
Remember to place the lid on the batting before gathering the fabric. The hard part is stuffing the top thru the ring. Make sure that the batting doesn't get under the lid or it will be hard to screw the ring onto the jar. I also use all purpose tacky glue to glue the fabric to the bottom of the lid for added strength.

I am too lazy for that I just got out the hot glue gun and glued the fabric to the bottom of the lid and it seems to be working fine!

Cris 07-10-2011 03:12 PM

Adorable!!

cjomomma 07-10-2011 03:20 PM

I would have used the hot glue gun but I wanted a puffy top and for it to be tightly fitted. Everyone has their own way of doing things and that's what makes and keeps things interesting. Atleast for me it does! :-)

You are absolutely right (in my book). The little thing that you tweak may be the very thing that I needed to know to make something work. Bring on the tweaking and the quirking. LOL!

LOL!

Carrie these make me think of my dad's workbench. He would keep all the nails and stuff in old jars, like baby food or jelly jars. One jar, tucked in the back, was always full of the Hershey's semisweet chocolate chips! These jars would be the perfect size for a little snack jar by the machine, for extra energy.

Maureen 07-10-2011 04:30 PM

Is it just batting and fabric attached to the top?

What are you stuffing them with?

Thank you! I use batting scraps.

jaciqltznok 07-10-2011 05:33 PM

if you don't have upholstery thread, beading thread or even dental floss will work!

Thank you!

My sister, who is not a quilter, took one of the half pint ones I made to keep paper clips in for her desk at work.

Now that is another great idea! I love the pincushion idea and the paper clips too. I wonder if it was included in the stash needed for a craft fair...how many would you need? Hmmm...
