Absolutely stunning C - as always! I love the way your quilting sings with soul because you 'draw'it yourself!

Just beautiful piecing and quilting! A great combo.

One of the prettiest quilts I have seen on here. Quilting very appropriate for the pattern and fabric.

I have to say there are 100's of HST and I didn't see one point cut off! Exceptional piecing!

I wanted to highlight the pattern in this scrappy quilt....The black square on point, the red star and the flying geese borders. I put in feather wreaths, feather swags, stipple in several areas to highlight the design elements and simple wavy line to break up some areas and provide texture. That's my favorite word "texture".

I used Hobbs polydown batting.

I quilted this on my 26 INNOVA. No computer or pantograph quilting.

Thanks for looking!

is this a high end muslin backing or just plain and simple muslin?

missellie 07-10-2011 05:49 AM

I used a better muslin for the quilt as many looked and felt too thin and loosely woven. It was 108 inches wide. BTW, congrats on your weight loss ticker. Ellie

Beautiful as usual..love it!!

Eastexgal 07-10-2011 06:34 AM

this is amazing quilting. I don't know which I love more the pieced top or the quilting! Good work and lovely quilt.

missellie 07-10-2011 06:47 AM

Melody and Eastexgal, thanks for the compliments. This was my third quilt and I am glad I waited all these years to get it quilted. Charisma's quilting made the quilt! Ellie

What a lovely quilt! I love the beautiful vintage fabrics and the pattern that was used. What a wonderful treasure for your daughter to cherish, Miss Ellie. I see you're from Omaha..I lived there most of my life! Two kids and one of my grand children live there as well as several sisters.

Charisma, your quilting is as always, outstanding. I wonder...how long does it take you to complete a bed sized quilt in most cases? As a new LA quilter it takes me a couple weeks so I'm just curious as to how quickly it can eventually be done (with much practice)?

nena 07-10-2011 07:30 AM

Quilt is lovely, but I am always amazed at your quilting.

thanks for your reply.. i have thought of using muslin but when i breeze past it.. i guess i feel the ones that are sort of flimsy and i just say...nah..
i am working hard on the weight so ty for noticing.. feels good to get some of it off.. in due time the rest will be a past thought but never forgotten on how it all got there to begin with !!

missellie 07-10-2011 09:11 PM

Colleen53, I found so many flimsy muslins, too! Then a nice lady showed me this good muslin I'd overlooked. (We became acquainted and have lunch and visit. I think it's quilters' personality to help.)
My mother always used muslin to back quilts and I turn to it frequently. Keep up the good work on weight - you must be very proud.
