wanna confess? :-D

actually, looking around here, I'm sure there are very few who make mistakes and even less that leave them in their quilts.

still, if you've got any you want to share...

here are my mistakes....

leaving the salvage edge exposed. the sad part is, I noticed it when it was still an easy fix, but I was in a rush to finish, so there it is. :)

another salvage edge...was really hoping to loose this in the miter edge, but didn't. and didn't have enough to fix it. I like it....it will remind my kids that mommy worked hard on their quilts and made them herself.

oops! my second attempt at doing the finishing quilting. thought I had successfully navigated around that one...but apparently not. gotta get hubby's wire cutters and liberate that pin.

ROFL. You are so funny. Thank you so much for the giggles. The pin was the best. Poor little pin. I'll have to check my pictures. I know I have secret booboos too on my quilts. Of course I do it on purpose.:(

paulswalia 10-12-2011 12:25 PM

okay, sewing the pin into the quilt is a new one!!!!!Kinda like the other day I read that someone sewed their clothes into the binding.....I'm not laughing at you but WITH you. OH, whre to start with my own.....how about marking with a gel pen - that will be interesting when I try to wash it out!!

Maggiemay 10-12-2011 12:33 PM

I've sewn a pin into a quilt before, but I cut off selvages so I don't have that problem! No quilt police here though! Keep up the good work & have fun!

Judith1005 10-12-2011 12:41 PM

mistakes, what mistakes? i meant to do that. lol (my mother says, no mistakes....it's your signature.) lol, i've signed a few.

grammiepamie 10-12-2011 12:56 PM

They aren't mistakes, just personal touches LOL

QuiltnNan 10-12-2011 01:10 PM

i've done all of those :)

Yep, that pin is definitely a me thing, too!

:P :P :P

sammygirlqt 10-12-2011 01:55 PM

Whether we admit it or not, we have all made mistakes that we neglected to fix. Your projects are great so don't fret over it. You might be able to take a dark permanent marker and cover the white selvage and then it won't show very much.I have done everything you have done and more.

ScoutingSquirrel 10-12-2011 01:57 PM

As a child I lost my temper with a particularly scathing teacher and sat down with my sewing, sampler on hessian or similar, and sewed like mad 'to show her' ...

Of course I did sew the whole thing to my skirt and then had to stand there in front of the rest of the class whilst she gradually unpicked it all ...

I'm on my first quilts at the moment, so I'll look at this thread for reassurance when things are going wrong!

Oh my, you've made 'mistakes'? I call it creative license. Who knows, leaving the selvage showing on a quilt may just become the new 'in' thing and then you'll be sorry you did not patent the idea.

For myself, there are no mistakes--just a new interpretation of a pattern. (But I HAVE basted a quilt to the rug)

char634w 10-12-2011 02:32 PM

lol, I have definitely sewn a pin into a quilt also.

Quilter Lois 10-12-2011 02:37 PM

We all make them - however-they can be fixed! Find yourself an ink pen like in Michaels or an art store and match the color you need. Be sure to touch it very lightly to see how much the ink runs . Actually, gel pens are best. After fixing it, set the color with a hot iron. Be sure to put a piece of tissue or fabric on top so you don't burn the fabric. You might try it out on a trial piece first. I have done this multiple times and it works! Washes ok, too.

Post a pic of your quilt so we can ooh and ah at it!

I've made plenty of mistakes and here is two to prove it. See how easy they are to find. The date on this quilt is 2008 and it is still waiting to be quilted. I have about twentyfive waiting!

Murphy 10-12-2011 02:59 PM

Hi and welcome to the board from Iowa. I saw no mistakes here; only individual preferences (smile).

I'm sure we all have put our "signature" in a few quilts. When I first started making quilts...I always would have a couple fabrics upside down. I thought it was funny and never fixed them. I said that I wasn't perfect and neither was my quilt.

lodad 10-12-2011 03:06 PM

I know the problem. Many times when I am hand quilting my finger tip ends up being stitched in. I quilckly look to see if I am bleeding. ROFL-OUCH

Lowell ;) ;) ;)

Matilda 10-12-2011 03:13 PM

That is great!!

QUILTNMO 10-12-2011 03:15 PM

Quiltinelaine 10-12-2011 03:25 PM

I have done these things before but my machine will break a needle before sewing that PIN:: I have done that many times and have lots of needles on hand: UBE Quilting _ ohh my bless your heart: I would let that BOO BOO go: Sure is a beautiful quilt::: Unless it really buggs you:::

wolph33 10-12-2011 03:29 PM

so funny-I have made many boo boo's over the years

maryb119 10-12-2011 03:32 PM

We never make mistakes in quilting....only creative adjustments.

johanka 10-12-2011 04:47 PM

I spy but I won't tell. :)
I have left a little blood(pin prick) on one.

3incollege 10-12-2011 04:51 PM

I've done the pin thing, except mine was left in between the layers.

sewingbuddy 10-12-2011 05:09 PM

We all make the same mistakes, it is our trademark! Enjoy and keep up the good work.

Dolphyngyrl 10-12-2011 05:10 PM

whats funny is that if you showed it to a non quilter they wouldn't even see the mistakes.

IBQLTN 10-12-2011 05:33 PM

Welcome from Fla!

I see no mistakes ... haven't you heard, quilting with selvages is the new 'in' thing? I'm saving them for a friend of mine so your 'mistakes' are just modern piecing!

As far as the pin, I love your resolution ... not sure I would have considered that which is a perfect solution.

alikat110 10-12-2011 07:00 PM

i don't see any mistakes!!! hehehe

DRogers870 10-12-2011 07:17 PM

ROFLMAO - OMG, I've done that - that is too funny. Its nice to know I'm not alone.

heyuitsme 10-12-2011 07:28 PM

fleurdelisquilts.com 10-12-2011 07:31 PM

I gave a child quilt away but left a straight pin sewn in. Don't even know how the pin got between the layers, I sure did it. The mom had to bring the quilt back so I could take a seam apart, remove the pin and then resew! It was a little embarrassing. I've also been stingy with fabric at times, and have used a few selvages!

Thanks for posting, everyone, it's fun to read the silliness!

ruthie 10-12-2011 07:36 PM

All I see is creative license. Keep creating.

LoriMcc 10-13-2011 03:45 AM

OMG! These could be my mistakes! Ha ha

mummadee 10-13-2011 04:03 AM

I had to scrutinize to finally find the "mistake." Why are we all so hard on ourselves? If we all had quit over our "errors" there'd be no quilts, except antiques. Ease up and call it creative license.

Joset 10-13-2011 04:13 AM

oh i made a baby quilt once for my nephews little girl. i had it all done and my sisterinlaw was looking at it and said this is backwards (pointing to one of the squares. i looked at it because the quilt was all done. and i just said well that will add charcter to it. lol

Glenda TX 10-13-2011 04:55 AM

Sewing Bloopers! Too funny. I think we should start a new category! I love the pin blooper.

jaciqltznok 10-13-2011 05:12 AM

love the pin...been there, done that!

MegsAnn 10-13-2011 06:50 AM

Oooop! I've sewn fabric in, wrong-side up. Sometimes I'll fix that but mostly I leave it.

Grandma Peg 10-13-2011 07:19 AM

There are just too many to list. One that probably frosts me more than any is when you think you have enough fabric for a quilt and you don't. Sometimes it works out that you can get more and also found I couldn't find any more.
