I love this comment! I'm not sure I entirely agree, though. I think most women CAN to two or three things at once (because we have superior brains). It always amazes me that my husband does not seem to be able to do this. I will grant you, though, that in the sewing room it's probably best to try to narrow your focus a bit--for instance, I can listen to music while I quilt, or even watch TV. But it all falls apart if somebody comes in and tries to talk to me while I'm sewing!

That is a beautiful quilt. I can tell that a lot of work went into it.

Mistakes certainly are ok. I was teaching someone how to quilt, who then had a perfectionist aunt step in and have her redo all the quilt blocks. It was just a rail fence block and it was her first (and probably ONLY) quilt. I was going to show her how to just sort of work with them.

There are times to be a perfectionist, and other times it just needs to be set aside.

By the way... the quilt is gorgeous!!! :D

Yes, i believe that when you are learning to sew or quilt, that the aim should be "to just get the project done". fix the mistakes that are real noticable, but make it wearable, or useable and just enjoy the fact that you learned and got it done. and can be proud of it. not everyone can 'just get it done' or have the guts to get that far.

We had gone to visit the daughter, and i had taken a couple star quilt blocks to work on while we were traveling. (of course my sewing machine had to go also) the little grandson had a melt down 1 time because he had spent an hr doing his homework, and come to find out it was all completely wrong. so with an engineer for a mom and a "tool and die" skilled tradesman for a dad, he is more than a perfectionist. and of course granny just could not bear it because the GS was so upset about having done his homework all wrong. that was when I " shared" with him all the mistakes i had made on this quilt as i was making it. and showed him that it all 'came out in the wash'. and so it went to him when i finished it. He just loves it, it is one of several he has of my quilts. and he remembers the 'story' about 'good enough'--- often.

I think it's a brilliant way to teach the "it's OK" concept. I had to look for your "mistakes", but found one finally. Beautiful quilt, and I hope it has the desired effect on an 8 year old perfectionist! I've got a dgs who is starting to be a perfectionist at 4!! EEK!!
