LQS had a block a month club. i purchased one block of squares and l paper piecing pattarn each month. took me about a yr and half at that rate to get it done. and i learned to paper piece. loved it. but occasionally, i cut the pieces too small, and then had to piece them together, cause you have to remember to pin the matarial on the back of the paper so you can see the lines to stitch on. and the wrong side of the material is facing the back side of the paper. LOL you really can't do two or 3 things at the same time, like us women always try to do. you know.

Candace 04-04-2010 07:22 AM

It turned out beautiful and was worth all the work.

Beautiful quilt. Your GS is one lucky little fellow.

sewNso 04-04-2010 10:58 AM

the pink and blue star, 2nd from the bottom on the left was suppose to have alternating colors. one point had 2 of the same colors together. i pointed that out to him, and told him ,'good enough is okay sometimes. you can't obsess over getting everything perfect. of course we all want to do the best we can, but perfect sometimes is just too much trouble." " yes 100% right is wonderful, and you can aim towards that, but to make yourself really, really anxi's over perfection is not good"
that was just one of several mistakes, but i fixed most of them, or they weren't noticiable, unless pointed out.

Ditter43 04-04-2010 12:26 PM

OMG!!! That is one spectacular looking quilt!!!

If a quilt teaches me something new, I count it as a success. So far, every quilt has taught me something.

Harmony 04-05-2010 08:39 AM

"LOL you really can't do two or 3 things at the same time, like us women always try to do. you know."

I love this comment! I'm not sure I entirely agree, though. I think most women CAN to two or three things at once (because we have superior brains). It always amazes me that my husband does not seem to be able to do this. I will grant you, though, that in the sewing room it's probably best to try to narrow your focus a bit--for instance, I can listen to music while I quilt, or even watch TV. But it all falls apart if somebody comes in and tries to talk to me while I'm sewing!

GrammaNan 04-05-2010 05:53 PM

That is a beautiful quilt. I can tell that a lot of work went into it.

Kara 04-05-2010 05:57 PM

Mistakes certainly are ok. I was teaching someone how to quilt, who then had a perfectionist aunt step in and have her redo all the quilt blocks. It was just a rail fence block and it was her first (and probably ONLY) quilt. I was going to show her how to just sort of work with them.

There are times to be a perfectionist, and other times it just needs to be set aside.

By the way... the quilt is gorgeous!!! :D

Sheila Elaine 04-05-2010 06:36 PM

Wow, that's an awesome quilt.

JCL in FL 04-05-2010 08:45 PM

wow that's a beauty! I love the blocks connecting all the stars

Rina 04-06-2010 04:29 AM

Is there suppose to be a mistake? I don't see it. Lovely!!

sewNso 04-06-2010 07:36 AM

Yes, i believe that when you are learning to sew or quilt, that the aim should be "to just get the project done". fix the mistakes that are real noticable, but make it wearable, or useable and just enjoy the fact that you learned and got it done. and can be proud of it. not everyone can 'just get it done' or have the guts to get that far.

sewNso 04-06-2010 08:12 AM

We had gone to visit the daughter, and i had taken a couple star quilt blocks to work on while we were traveling. (of course my sewing machine had to go also) the little grandson had a melt down 1 time because he had spent an hr doing his homework, and come to find out it was all completely wrong. so with an engineer for a mom and a "tool and die" skilled tradesman for a dad, he is more than a perfectionist. and of course granny just could not bear it because the GS was so upset about having done his homework all wrong. that was when I " shared" with him all the mistakes i had made on this quilt as i was making it. and showed him that it all 'came out in the wash'. and so it went to him when i finished it. He just loves it, it is one of several he has of my quilts. and he remembers the 'story' about 'good enough'--- often.

jljack 04-06-2010 08:54 AM

I think it's a brilliant way to teach the "it's OK" concept. I had to look for your "mistakes", but found one finally. Beautiful quilt, and I hope it has the desired effect on an 8 year old perfectionist! I've got a dgs who is starting to be a perfectionist at 4!! EEK!!

Sheree from Chicago 04-06-2010 06:33 PM

Thank you for sharing your beautiful quilt. I'm happy you can post your pics now.
