This is a quilt I finished earlier this year, just got around to finishing with the pictures. I started with Judy Martin's Snake River Log Cabin pattern, but it looks nothing like her design, because I changed the block a little and changed the layout a lot. It's a big quilt, 108 inches square, and I quilted it in 4 sections, leaves and spirals. I used up the extra fabric and also extra blocks on the back. Since I did this quilt I've learned to make a better join between the sections that isn't as visible. (Quilt and learn...)

The book is - Judy Martin's Log Cabin Quilt Book. I highly recommend this book. Good designs, construction information, lots of layouts, etc. http://www.amazon.com/Judy-Martins-C...2535631&sr=8-1 Believe it or not, my quilt is the same as the one on the cover, but as I said I changed the block just a little and changed the layout a lot. I experimented with EQ6 and also laid the blocks out on the floor. Here is a layout that's more like the one in the book. I wanted to do a light color piano key border, but the quilt was big enough without it, and I was tired of it, so I stopped. It's amazing to me how much a log cabin can change by just flipping the blocks around. |
Awesome!
Oh My Goodness....that is absolutely beautiful :). You must be so proud of it. I love the design and the colors. It's great. I actually think I'm drooling :) :)
Wow! I really like this quilt!! Fantastic job.

dvseals, please pass the bib! I too am drooling. I GOTTA get that book!

I don't think I can post the original block from the book because of copyright issues. I hope it's okay to post my modified block. In my block, I added another patch (red or purple) in the upper right corner and changed the color scheme, red in the lower left, gold where Judy had the red swoop, and red to the right of the swoop instead of neutrals. I also made some different blocks for the border. The block changes are not what changes the overall look of the quilt. The layout is the big difference. I still love Judy's layout, but I like to make something different when I can. |

Good grief- WHAT join between the sections???????????? Fantabulous quilt! It looks like a cross between a Log Cabin and a Bargello, both of which I love.
Fabulous!!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
where did you get that pattern???????? |
Dunster - thanks for sharing your design process; I love seeing how other ppl work. :D
Can't wait for my book to come! :D |
Wow!!!!!! I love it.
Just  !!
Wowzers, dunster!! I love to see your work. :D :D When I see those little squares in a log cabin pattern I smile and nod appreciatively, then turn the page in the book for something easier. Bravo to you for tackling the challenging stuff and making it beautuiful!!
Karla is right! That is challenging and you've certainly met the challenge! Kudos to you!
That is beautiful!! I love log cabin quilts --I've made two--but I've never made one as wonderful as yours.I am in awestruck.
