Beautiful garden!

ontheriver 05-31-2011 07:48 AM

So pretty. I'm jealous, I can't grow a thing out side. Tried flower baskets around my porch several times and they just die no matter what I do. My sweetie suggested I make some flower wall hanging to put on porch walls so I have my flowers, lol. But you know, I am seriously considering it.

lovingmama 05-31-2011 07:57 AM

Come on over and please make my garden just as beautiful please! :-P

blueangel 05-31-2011 08:34 AM

So pretty, and Poppies are my favorite. I finally got one little flower last year, houses close to us have them but I even bought the plants already 4 inches high and they still won't grow. You are way ahead of us in flowers...we are still worrying about frost until middle of June. I guess someone looked it up and July is the only month that we have not had snow....I lived outside of Ft. Wayne for 3 years while my husband attended Concordia Seminary. Loved it there...

Sewfine 05-31-2011 09:24 AM

She is a wonderful gardener. I on the other hand should not be allowed to glance at flowers my thumb is so black!

jackied 05-31-2011 10:54 AM

Glad you put the pictures on here. She has a beautiful place and must be proud of it. I have lots of trees and not enough sun for flowers.

gzuslivz 05-31-2011 10:59 AM

Beautiful! When I have something that grows in my yard, it's either a weed or it grows in spite of me! lol I do have 2 glorious peony plants. One has about 30 buds and the other one about 20. I'm waiting not so patiently for them to bloom! Had a wonderful clematis, but dh chopped it last year and now it's very sad:-(

ddrobins1956 05-31-2011 10:59 AM

Mom, I love your garden. Gardening feeds the soul, just like quilting, I think

huntannette 05-31-2011 12:11 PM

wow gorgeous!!

Maggie_1963 05-31-2011 12:33 PM

Oh that is so gorgeous! The ground is so hard and rocky here that we have done mostly container gardening. I am slowly gathering pots and yard art to landscape without grass, part of our yard is shady, part sunny, it's been a fun challenge! Have planted mostly native Texas plants to withstand the heat, it is over 100 today!

joyce blint 05-31-2011 12:55 PM

Absolutely beautiful. Thanks to both of you for sharing.

hikingquilter 05-31-2011 01:20 PM

Beautiful garden. Very pretty.

Vat 06-01-2011 04:29 AM

Beautiful, but what does it have to do with quilting? This caption says pictures of quilts.

nabobw 06-01-2011 04:42 AM

nice pictures

mmb195152 06-01-2011 05:06 AM

Absolutely beautiful! So glad you posted the pictures. This time of year, because of such short growing seasons in Wisconsin, I have to choose gardening over quitling, or at least share the time.

I think flower gardening and quilting have a lot in common. Mixing and matching colors, enjoying the creative process as well as the finished product, and shopping at quilt stores and gardenening centers can take hours, just appreciating and longing.

So I love sunny days when I can garden, and rainy days so I can sew.

How many of you quilters are also gardeners?

JusticeClan 06-01-2011 05:29 AM

Tell Mom she has a beautiful yard. Out here you're lucky to grow anything.

BrandyMcCoy 06-01-2011 05:29 AM

#1piecemaker 06-01-2011 09:59 AM

Oh my. What a nice garden!!

ButtermilkMama 06-01-2011 10:25 AM

Her gardens are very pretty. I have a large one on my front
lawn and a smaller one across the driveway on more of our lawn. Remember, I live on a farm so I have lots of space to plant flowers and shrubs.

rona thickpenny 06-01-2011 11:18 AM

Love your mums garden, so pretty.

nhnative 06-01-2011 01:21 PM

Your mom's garden is beautiful. I love the pond. Very nice.

GrandmaJeanne 06-01-2011 01:31 PM

Nice garden, I keep trying every year to try and grow flowers, just don't have a knack for it. Envy your mom for such a peaceful place to sit and relax, and to enjoy the work she has done.

When I saw your mom's garden, and I saw your avatar of the little one, I had to post. When my kids were little, they sort of were careful of Mom's flowers, because I included them in 'gardening.' Part of that was planting things they could relate to.
I remember planting Iris Pallida. It had varegated leaves, and a distintive perfume that smelled exactly like grape Koolaid!
It's a very old iris, it's proabably for sale somewhere, I bet some of her friends might even have one to share. Come to think of it, maybe she already has one!
