I've finished my mother's quilt, finally. It's hard to see, but I found a great climbing rose pattern for the border. The quilt is crinkly 'cause I just washed it.

Dad's top is finished, all I have to do now is the quilting and we'll be good to go.

Butterfli19 12-04-2008 12:23 PM

Nice job and great colors! Did you quilt them on your sewing machine? If you did, you certainly are brave! I'm afraid to quilt a potholder with anything other than diagonols, lol.

LoriJ 12-04-2008 12:26 PM

Yes I did. I started out doing just in the ditch, then straight line, now have been trying free motion with a pattern. I have a frame that I bought second hand from a lady, and I'm going to experiment with that next. practice, practice, practice, that's the only thing that helps me. Believe me, there are lots and lots of 'boo boo's ....

tlrnhi 12-04-2008 12:51 PM

Thank you all for your kind comments *blushing*. I'ts so nice to receive affirmation from this great group. I'm getting excited to get them in the mail. I just wish I could see their faces when they open them, but *sigh* we are across the country from each other.

Quilt4u: The patterns are called Morning Glory and Crossroads to Jericho. Morning Glory I received in an quilting magazine advertisement and Crossroads to Jericho is in one of my books. Let me know if you would like a copy of the magazine ad. I'll look up the book name when I get home.

Sure! I'd love to have more "family"... lol But, you'd have to do your share of quilting too 8) I don't have anyone to make a quilt for me except me!

Crossroads to Jericho is a pattern in "Big Book of Scrap Quilts" compiled and edited by L Amanda Owens and Patricia Wilens-2005 Oxmoor House

Belinda 12-07-2008 04:08 PM

Oh, how pretty they both are. Love your colors and the patterns. The nine patch took me by surprise, I didn't see it at first. Both are beauties, your folks will love them :D

Just read your post about Jerico Crossroads, looks so complicated. They are both beauties and the quilting is wonderful too.

sharonb43 12-08-2008 05:00 AM

Very, very nice. Love your mom's quilt. I'm sure our parents will be thrilled!

LoriJ 12-08-2008 12:48 PM

Oh boy! with so many "Moms" I wouldn't know where to start... LOL Thank you all for your comments.

bluebird, it really isn't complicated. There is only a ninepatch, which was strip pieced, then you put triangles along the sides which turns it on point. Then you sew the blocks all together, add a 2inch border, then use your leftovers in strips along the sides. It only looks complicated because you form arrows by matching your triangle fabric with the block in the ninepatch. I like quilts that are simple to make, but look complicated when finished.
