There was another discussion on Big Stitch quilting, this is the first one I've been working on and I love it! So relaxing, quick and forgiving!! Thanks for looking .

I really like the look of the bigger stitches  Thank you for sharing more with us

Susy 06-22-2010 06:53 AM

I defintely have to do this!, it just "makes" this quilt and I cannot seem to get the hang of hand quilting with the small stitches. Beautiful job.

CAROLJ 06-22-2010 06:55 AM

The big stitches achieved a lot of motion that normal quilting would not have done. I like the nautical theme. How did you make the lighthouses?

lesleyb 06-22-2010 06:56 AM

I will definately have a go at this looks great :)

Susy, this is good practice for you in case you ever want to try hand quilting.

The lighthouses are batik panels I bought at the Lancaster Quilt Show this year!
Thanks for the kind words!

CAROLJ 06-22-2010 07:12 AM

They were a good choice.

Borntohandquilt 06-22-2010 07:15 AM

It looks absolutely perfect for that quilt. Great job!

RatherB Quilting 06-22-2010 07:37 AM

Ooo...I like it! I always said it's the quilting that makes the quilt...that quilting is beautiful! Might have to try that!

virtualbernie 06-22-2010 07:49 AM

Beautiful big stitches. Adds a whole new decorative element to the quilt! Nice!

saf45 06-22-2010 07:56 AM

love it ,

belmer 06-22-2010 08:01 AM

Wonderful job! love the look of the bigger stitches.

bearisgray 06-22-2010 08:28 AM

Looks great. The bigger stitches add so much more to the design than the tiny ones would have.

littlehud 06-22-2010 08:31 AM

I love that look. The quilting stands out so well. Great job and thanks for sharing.

Jim's Gem 06-22-2010 08:33 AM

Looks beautiful!!

katsewnsew 06-22-2010 08:35 AM

Love them! What size thread do you use for that???

hobo2000 06-22-2010 09:02 AM

I really like this effect. Should be relaxing to do also.

ann clare 06-22-2010 09:16 AM

Beautiful

LindaG 06-22-2010 09:39 AM

your quilting really brought together all the colors of the sea in the batiks and gave the illusion of waves. NICE WORK!

Just used Perle cotton!

Adriane 06-22-2010 10:24 AM

Perle cotton as in the embroidery kind? :) What kind of needle? I really like the look of this!

Katrine 06-22-2010 10:28 AM

Now that looks great, and so good on that quilt. It's something I would enjoy I think.

lots2do 06-22-2010 10:34 AM

Neat. Will have to try this!

Yes just regular embroidery perle cotton, and an embroidery needle, probably could use a smaller needle if not working with batiks.
Thanks so much everyone.

Debo 06-22-2010 01:01 PM

Oh...how cute is that! Need to try out this technique.

Grama Lehr 06-22-2010 01:04 PM

My husband gives your quilt a huge thumbs up!! He loves anything to do with the ocean. Great job, the big stitches give your quilt a feeling of movement.

jljack 06-22-2010 01:06 PM

I really like that a lot!! It could be really pronounced, or really subtle, and I like the effect altogether!!! Great job!!!

Joanie2 06-22-2010 03:01 PM

I really like this look. Did you draw your quilt lines on first? And what type of thread did you use? Are you using a frame or a hoop? Inquiring minds want to know so we can try it too.

Luv Quilts and Cats 06-22-2010 03:02 PM

very pretty!

Evie 06-22-2010 03:19 PM

I like it! It looks like a not-so-structured form of sashiko and it goes perfectly with your quilt.

MaryAnna 06-22-2010 03:20 PM

Just gorgeous! You did a great job and I really like the big stitches, it's a fresh look! Thanks for sharing!
Kind Regards,
MaryAnna

I had a water stencil I used to start , then I got used to it and just freehanded the lines with a Fons and porter white mechanical pencil ( my favorite tool), I do not use a hoop or frame for any kind of hand work...used perle cotton!!!
Thanks for all the nice comments everyone!

Love it...how did you come up with that design stitches? It was made exactly to go with your fabric pattern!

newestnana 06-22-2010 05:39 PM

So...single strand embroidery floss?

Beautiful!
