I remember learning to make bound buttonholes. Either in home ec or 4-H, probably in the late 50's or early 60's. Never turned a collar, but did make a new one for a barn jacket one time. Only part that was worn was the collar. Never could figure out why?!
Brings to mind a saying from the 30's: Probably learned from my grandparents who lived through the depression. Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, or Do without!!! Too bad we strayed so far afield before we realized how true these words really are! |
This stuff is so cool, thanks for showing the pictures.

Love those, and how wonderful to have such a sweet daughter-in-law! Our home ec teacher in the 1960's taught us that a well-made garment HAD to have bound buttonholes, or it would be too cheap-looking to be caught dead in. I'm in the process of making a quilted handbag that has 3 buttons, and I'm putting bound buttonholes on it. I still feel Mrs. Bullard looking over my shoulder when I sew.
