I truely need some motivation, everyone. I am not pleased at this one AT ALL. This is the first time I have ever bought some Moda packs. In brighter colors, no less. I usually go for the natural colors, browns, tans, etc. But I was trying to do something out of my norm and I am not feeling this at all.
I bought two packs of the 5" and one 10" cakes. I started the four patch out with the 5" squares and decided I wanted to make it bigger so I cut the 10"s down to the 5"sizes. Now I have so many that I am getting bored and just not liking this anymore hahaha. This thing could be huge if I wanted it to be. But I think I will be making it into a queen...If I can only get motivated......... HELPPPPP!!!! Disappearing 4 Patch |
It is lovely, keep going.
|
I love the design maybe if you move the blocks around in different positions you will like it better.
|
I like it. if you don' twant to make all those blocks, think about putting some solid color squares in between to help break them up some.
good luck |
Put it away for a few days and then try again. It's pretty. I think you're just getting bored with it. Don't give up.
|
If the blocks are not yet sewed (I don't believe they are from the pic)..... I would consider putting a thin, white sash between them. I think it would make it pop. Just a thought.
|
I think its lovely. Put it away for a while and then start it up again later.
|
Keep moving on it!!! It's going to be so cheerful when it's finished!!!
|
It looks great. I like nativetexan's suggestion about using solid blocks between each D4P. Play around with it until you find something you like or put it away for a few days or until you feel like working on it.

If it is too busy for you ,what if you put more of the blocks together and go from light to dark or dark to light, you could set them on point too.
|
It's very pretty...but if you put in some plain blocks and sashed you would have it finished in no time flat.

I'm with lots of others, put in some plain blocks between the these. As for the other 5" squares you have, make a different quilt with them....just not a D4P!
Honestly, I love the colors and think you're on to something. Maybe when you start sewing them together you'll find the energy you need to get it finished. |
I love your blocks but can understand getting bored. The others gave you great ideas!!! :D:D
|
I hope this does not sound mean, but if you don't like the colors, do you think you will like a queen sized quilt?
Another suggestion I was thinking of was to find a color that you like for a sashing... I love the quilt and thanks for sharing! |
If you want a different look or a faster ending how about this: make 4 patch blocks out of 4 of your D4P blocks, sash/alternate with solid blocks the size of the newly created 4 patch...
with that said, I like the looks of what you have & would keep plugging at it. |
I love it to pieces. Your quilt will be stunning. Keep on sewing.
|
Your yellow and white blocks get kind of lost in the mix. I would take those out and sew a narrow (darker)blue sash in-between the blocks. You can always use the reject blocks on the back of the quilt.
|
I am with NativeTexan, I think having a solid colour would help the colours breath and also make it come together more quickly. As it is, it is very pretty, and I can see it in a room with mostly white, but if you have gone off it and want to finish it more quickly that is my suggestion. Otherwise put it to the wall for a while and come back to it later, it really is a nice quilt top but it does have a lot of work in it I appreciate that.

I like it! Will be really pretty. Keep going!

This one is nice, it is a d9p but this gives you a setting idea. |
Yup! I agree. Put plain block between, in a checkerboard pattern or whatever, and you'll finish fast!
|
I really like it!

wow ! lots of matching and piecing.. keep on going ! looks great !

Thank you everyone! You all have put some fine ideas out there for me to think about. Luckylindy, I didnt think that was mean. I post on here to get opinions and suggestions :) and its ok. I think my problem is, is that I dont like the pattern lol...The colors I like...and I got these cakes blindly without any patterns in mind.
I have never done sashing around individual blocks before. I will have to think about how to do that...And I have never done on point before, but am willing to try. I didnt think about taking blocks out colors (such as the yellow as quilter1430 suggested), now that is an idea too! Wow, I will work on it again today. Thanks you all so much for your input! :) |

I like it with the sashing!
|
Love this, bright colors! Put it away and do a quickie project than come back to it. Do some rearranging and see what pops out at you.
Went back and read some more of the posts. I too like the sashing. I do a lot of project linus quilts so if you don't like the bright colors make some charity quilts for kids out of those blocks. Just a thought. |
Page 2 on the bottom, I have added sashing. It is a blue jean color. The picture is not really good. But its a start.....

EDIT: Okay, everyone....how is this sashing? I have no idea how to add it, but this is what I have come up with. Nothing is sewed together yet......
It's blue of course I love it! I think it makes the blocks pop. As far as adding sashing, I think most basic quilt books show you how or you can do a search & may find something. I usually add to sides of each block & form rows (keep in mind you don't have to add to each side because the right side of one will join the left of the next) - then add longer strip between each row. |
Your other option would be to sash them individually or in groups of four, six, eight whatever. If you think you need to break it up a bit. Either white, dark blue or red. Sorry - didn't read! You've already done that - my bad
|
Some times finishing a quilt is as important as starting it. If you're not feeling like you want to finish a queen sized quilt because you're getting bored with the block, why don't you take the blocks you have made, and turn it into a lapquilt.

I think it is beautiful :D:D:D |
You can try making an oversized center block out of the same or another pattern and use the smaller blocks to flank it with. You'll finish with it sooner.
|
The blue sashing is EXACTLY what I had in mind! It looks wonderful now! I see you took out the yellow and white blocks, too. Now it really has definition!
|
I agree, add sashing.
