MSQC-Double Square Star

3 Attachment(s)
Hi Quilters! This is a Double Sq Star from Jenny Doan of Missouri Star Quilt Co. I added a scalloped border, my first try to make one. I know it's not perfect and not a deep scallop, but I didn't want it to look exactly like half a circle, nor just a wave. Also, I know this goes against all we have been taught or told, but I cut my binding the length of my backing yardage, not on a bias. Jenny told us to clip at our points and make it lie straight when sewing at points. She can explain it better than me. Anyway, I had already cut my binding when my friend Martha suggested the scallop edge. I told her I didn't have any material left to cut a bias binding, when she reminded us about our class with Jenny using straight edge. I do have three pleats or pinches on back when I quilted that I do I need to fix, but I'm close to finish!-lol-About time too since I made this top last year.

Well done and it looks great on your bed!

That's a beautiful quilt & I love the scallops. I'm working on a quilt right now & thinking of stippling like yours. If that's the way I decide to quilt it I sure hope it turns out just half as good as yours. Great quilt, quilting & color combos. Thanks for sharing it with us.

I’m sure yours will be great. I love quilting like this, it’s so relaxing if it’s not too big of a quilt. I always start dead center but I pin, pin pin first. Thanks for looking!

So pretty! The scalloped edge is lovely.

Two thumbs uphttps://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png! That looks great. I think your size scallops are perfect. Deeper (1/2 circles) really are not as nice, in my book!

Take a bow...can you hear me clapping? :)

Way to go on completing a beautiful quilt! I enjoyed seeing your photos. Thanks! I like the way you did your scallops...as you said, not a deep scallop.

Toogie, that's beautiful!!! I love everything about it. Aren't Jenny's patterns nice? I love watching her and have made many.

juliasb 06-10-2020 07:00 AM

I love your scrappy colors. You did a wonderful job on this quilt and I would not be concerned about a couple puckers. Always keep in mind there is no such thing as a perfect quilt. You have done a beautiful job. Thanks for sharing.

Well done. You've inspired me to think about attempting scallops.

Blueridgebeverly 12-20-2020 12:27 AM

Thank you for sharing! Your quilt is beautiful. I am at the planning stage to make a baby quilt with this pattern. I googled to see some color combinations and your thread popped up! Your quilt is great inspiration for me.

WMUTeach 12-20-2020 03:40 AM

I like you scalloped border a lot. Not to big, just right! I have not ever tried on. Probably should just to say I have given it a go. Your quilt is lovely.

Your gentle scallop is a perfect finish for this quilt.
Love your bedskirt! It, too, compliments the quilt so nicely. Is that handmade, too?

can you believe, I bought this crochet bed skirt for ONE DOLLAR at a garage sale! I was ecstatic to find it!

Can you also believe no one has chosen this quilt for their own? I am making a bed quilt for each of my 3 kids, grandkids (11) and 3 greats will get bed size or 60x80 oversized throws. My oldest girl doesn’t want this one. I told her to choose a pattern she likes and tell me her colors. I told her this at least a year ago. She doesn’t have time to look. I told her she may end up without one, as I can’t live forever😳nor can I make a queen and then she may or may not want it. Anyway, one of the grandkids will choose it or it will be an inheritance if someone hasn’t received theirs.
