much needed chair I made and quilt I'm working on

Just thought I'd share a chair that I've worked on. Picked up an old potty type chair (ugh!)....but wait....at a yard sale....free!! Anyway, my DH took it out in the yard and sterilized it, took out the potty, etc. After it was clean, I put together some scraps of drapery samples I had on hand and recovered the seat, back and arms. The chair was on rollers. That's why I had a vision for it...I needed a chair on rollers sometimes in my quilting room. Also, attached is the quilt I've been working on this morning. Pattern is called "Don's Goose" from a book called "Urban Country Quilts." My HQ16 is purring like a kitten today!!

Imagination is a wonderful thing! All I would have seen was a yucky potty! Great job in repurposing! And who would know if you cared! Pretty quilt too!

You must be the recycling queen. Nice job! Your quilt is beautiful; such beautiful warm colors. I recognize the gold from my own stash!

Baloonatic 11-16-2013 09:49 AM

Great job on the chair, what a wonderful repurpose! Did you retain any storage under the seat? I love the colors you used in the quilt, its very pretty

Great job on the potty chair! You should get years of use out of it! Your quilt is awesome, too! Good Job on Both!

Thank you! No, I didn't have any storage underneath. After he sterilized everything, I just put the "potty" up in the storage room. May need it one of these days....I'm pretty old. hehehe

Thank you. I do hate to throw good stuff away. Thanks about my quilt....lots of mistakes, etc. There were so many "points to match" in this quilt, it just didn't work out in some places. I thought..."who will notice on a flying horse?".....except another quilter.

Diane, I'm not using a panto.....this is all free-motion. Thank you!

tessagin 11-16-2013 10:48 AM

no one will know you repurposed a potty chair, unless of course you tell them. ANd as long as it has been thoroughly cleaned and sanitized no problem. My DH and I repurpose all the time. We have repurposed our kitchen chairs twice.

tessagin 11-16-2013 10:49 AM

Oh BTW love the quilt.

Sheilz 11-16-2013 10:58 AM

The quilt is beautiful and would never in a million years think of refurbishing a commode. You've done a lovely transformation.

Diane007 11-16-2013 11:10 AM

I just put strips of blue painters tape to remind me how far to quilt before I get there. Before I started putting down the tape, I would forget where that place was, and get the "bump" that happens when you can't go any farther, and it would mess up my rhythm of quilting AND the quilting.

I love your chair and the fabric you covered it with, and your quilt is beautiful!!!

Tweety2911 11-16-2013 03:43 PM

Barny, you are so right!! LOL Believe it or not, it is a VERY comfortable chair. Now, when my DH comes out to watch me quilt, and I need to sit down and rest, we "both" have a chair. I also use it when I'm finished with the quilt to sit down and roll along to take out the pins from the front two leader cloths. I'm usually very tired by then, and it helps. I started to say that I was "pooped" by then, but I decided not to use that term - considering that chair we're talking about. Oh my....LOL LOL

Love your chair and quilt. I love your sense of humor, because it reminds me of one of my aunts. She was special like that.

Mariposa 11-16-2013 07:52 PM

Very creative upcycle! Lovely quilt too! :)

gabeway 11-17-2013 05:45 AM

Great work!!!

Phyllis42 11-17-2013 07:51 AM

Love both freebie and quilt. How did you make the seat solid?

Actually, it had a hard plastic lid that covered the "potty" part. Of course, the pot went into storage, but I bought some thick cushioning at Hancock's...the kind that you use when you upholster furniture, etc. I laid it down, cut it to size, and then made my fabric covering. Sewed and then slipped my new covering onto the removable lid (it had clamps so it could be removed) then slip stitched it in the back area. This is probably as "clear as mud." LOL

mjhaess 11-18-2013 04:38 AM

Looks great.....Proof you can make something out of not much....Great job...

twinkie 11-18-2013 04:58 AM

Fantastic way to use an item not wanted by most people. I love it and your quilt also. Love your free motion quilting.

OMG What a WONDERFUL IDEA!! I have seen these "potty chairs" for next to nothing - and have never thought about putting in a solid bottom and then re-covering. Your use of the upholstery sample scraps is delightful........love those colors.......I may have to steal your idea!

Grannyh67 11-18-2013 05:34 AM

The chair is a great idea and I love your Quilt, and your Quilting is adorable.

GrannyHanaDa 11-18-2013 05:56 AM

Will make me see a commode in a whole new light. Great idea, thanks for sharing.

Quiltlady330 11-18-2013 06:07 AM

I think what you did turned out wonderful. Love the fall fabrics in your quilt. Have fun!

homecaregiver 11-18-2013 06:09 AM

great job on the chair. How would of known you could turn an old potty into such a useful item. Keeps it out of the landfill too. Hooray Hooray for you.
Pat

homecaregiver 11-18-2013 06:11 AM

OOPS that should have been "who would have known"

Retired Fire Chief 11-18-2013 06:13 AM

So cute, no one would ever guess it was a potty chair, it turned out great. Love the quilt you are working on, I think I have some of the same fabric you have used on your border, mine is a rusty brown, very rich autumn color.
