After purchasing the flimsy plastic thread holder for the cone-type spools of thread at JoAnn's, I got to thinking... This is what my DH and I came up with. All he had to do was add a "screw-type eye ring" to the back of the snowman mug tree that no one wanted to buy at my garage sale (thank goodness). It is sturdy and whimsical at the same time. It works so well - I am doing a happy dance!!! (and I got my money back at JoAnn's).

Very, very clever. Great transformation. What a wonderful way to repurpose something you were going to get rid of. Thank you for sharing this great tip.

That is brilliant! It is fascinating what we can do when we actually let our imagination and invention brain waves work together. Thank you for sharing.

I also made a similar one out of a wooden paper towel holder I found at a garage sale for $.75!

Rock Lady 10-31-2011 10:18 AM

That idea is nothing short of brilliant. It's a wonderful idea!

jansquiltn 10-31-2011 10:39 AM

You both need to pat yourselves on the back.

lmc8 10-31-2011 10:44 AM

I use a table base from my kids Lego set for the same purpose. Creativitity at it's best.

Maggie_Sue 10-31-2011 10:45 AM

Great minds.......

Deb watkins 10-31-2011 10:47 AM

I used a metal Christmas hanging ornament stand for my cones.

Maybe some lucky quilter will grab it up - or you could go back and see if it is still there - hahaha

fran624 10-31-2011 12:41 PM

What great ideas. Never thought of the towel holder as a thread stand. Threw mine away and got one to hang on the wall

Don't you just hate that?? I can hang onto something for years, have no use for it at all, put it in the charity bin, and bam!! an instant use comes up. Never fails. Oh well, you certainly put it in a great place.

Blue Bell 10-31-2011 04:06 PM

Wow! Now that's thinking outside the box. Thanks for the tip.

Barbm 11-01-2011 02:25 PM

I use my mug holder to hang scissors from. and the base has a lint brush, hand cream, chap stick, etc. Will take a pic later....

You ladies are just so smart coming up with these great solutions. I must show this to DH, I want to update my piece of bent loop stiff wire thread holder.
