What was supposed to be ugly??? That block is lovely and you're right..........contemporary. Would be a great "guy" quilt if you every have a need to do one and want to get rid of your so-called "ugly" fabric. I think it's wonderful.

ohiogirl 05-05-2011 03:14 AM

It's beautiful!

susie0808 05-05-2011 03:14 AM

I thought this was suppose to be an ugly block! Where is it? Cause this aint it!!!! LOL!! It's beautiful! I love the color choices!!

QM 05-05-2011 03:18 AM

It's a lovely block. I am always on the lookout for nice strong browns. One can never tell when the next need for brown will occur. For example, the browns in my avatar quilt required some real searching.

laalaaquilter 05-05-2011 03:28 AM

Very cool! And not Ugly ;-)

I did wonder what was coming, but certainly not this elegant block. It just shows that presented with the right complimentary fabrics even an ugly is beautiful.

It would make a beautiful quilt.

talkn58 05-05-2011 03:30 AM

I agree- which one is the ugly one???

Vat 05-05-2011 03:48 AM

Like it, it's not ugly at all.

Babs194068 05-05-2011 04:08 AM

Zephyr 05-05-2011 04:08 AM

Ok, that ugly block is beautiful, but I'm surprised no one asked how you tilted it. I have made D4P and am ready to do another one. How do I tip it like yours?

cindit 05-05-2011 04:10 AM

I love the contemporary look! Too bad your group is going to reject your block because it isn't ugly!

suekenyon 05-05-2011 04:13 AM

I see nothing ugly about it...very nice.

what is amazing is how some one thinks something is ugly and it turns out fabulous. this gorgeous. I) am in a color block freeze i can not come up with color combinations for what ever reason I think I did so many quilts that it just left me blank. have a great day

Quiltylady 05-05-2011 04:53 AM

After finishing my D4P patch I took my 9 1/2 inch square ruler and marked the center of it. Then I put the center of the ruler on the center of the square and carefully rotated the ruler making sure the 2 centers stayed lined up. Then I took my rotary cutter and cut all the way around the square ruler. I actually wasn't sure I was going to like it tilted like that...but I was pleasantly surprised at the results! Thanks for asking!

janiesews 05-05-2011 05:38 AM

I like that! It isn't ugly at all.

At the next meeting all the blocks are collected and someone volunteers to sew them all together in a quilt. These quilts then are given to those in need (for various reasons) in the community.

We all are given about 1/2 yard of white fabric at the beginning of the year to use for each block so that at least all the blocks have some of the same fabric in them to tie them all together at least to some degree.

The theme for this month is use your UGLIEST fabric to make a block. My "ugliest" fabric is a multi-brown and has no white in it. So I figured that I ought to make a more "contemporary" looking block that would compliment the stark contrast of the fabrics.

What do you think? I played around with this and just had fun!
Thanks for looking!

Nothing ugly about that!!!! Love it; may have to copy your idea!!!!
