THAT's your ugliest block? Sheez, you must have some gorgeous blocks, if that's the best you can do for "ugly". <G> Show us some of your other blocks! :)

piepatch 05-05-2011 05:52 AM

Nothing ugly about this block ! I REALLY like it..........make some more !

Nanaof4 05-05-2011 06:02 AM

Like the Ugly Duckling, it became a beautiful swan. Gorgeous block.

oma66 05-05-2011 06:07 AM

Whoa, there is nothing ugly about this block. I want to make an entire quilt with it....it is gorgeous. I think the fabrics are elegant and I love the block. Oh, now I am going to be dreaming about this block and finding the fabric for it. Now see what you did.....LOL

Is there a pattern for it or did you just cut it on an angle yourself?

redpurselady 05-05-2011 06:07 AM

Nothing ugly about this one - I love it!

Then I put the center of the ruler on the center of the square and carefully rotated the ruler making sure the 2 centers stayed lined up. Then I took my rotary cutter and cut all the way around the square ruler. I actually wasn't sure I was going to like it tilted like that...but I was pleasantly surprised at the results! Thanks for asking!

Thanks!! One other question, before I try it. What size were the blocks that you made your 4 patch from?

dls 05-05-2011 06:18 AM

If that is the ugliest fabric in your stash, you must have a nice stash.

owlvamp 05-05-2011 06:19 AM

Very pretty! I love the colors too.

I agree!

It turned into a swan!!! Isn't it amazing what you can do to a fabric when you combine it with something else?

boohoofish 05-05-2011 06:45 AM

What is so "ugly" about that fabric or block - I think it would make a very nice quilt.

mhansen6 05-05-2011 06:48 AM

That is NOT ugly. I love it.

quiltgran2 05-05-2011 06:52 AM

Ugly? It's gorgeous!

ChildoftheUniverse 05-05-2011 07:00 AM

I actually like it... lending truth to the saying: Beauty (or in this case, ugly) is in the eye of the beholder. I behold a pretty awesome block here....

macygma 05-05-2011 07:03 AM

I like it! Nice colors

Rose Bagwell 05-05-2011 07:14 AM

That is not ugly, you have to make an ugly one, ( just kidding). Nice.

Connie T. 05-05-2011 07:20 AM

nothing ugly about this block. I really like this one. I bet this would look lovely as quilt.

Peggyinno 05-05-2011 07:30 AM

I LOVE it! I think it should win a prize for the prettiest "ugly" block

KSue 05-05-2011 07:43 AM

I made a D4P with 7 inch squares to start off with. After it was all put together I took my 9 1/2 square ruler and marked the center of it. Then I lined up the center of the ruler with the center of the block and rotated it. I stopped rotating it when the corners of the ruler met the edges of the block. Pushing firmly on the ruler so as not to move it the slightest during cutting I then cut all the way around the square. I hadn't planned on making a quilt with this since it's going to the Quilting group I belong to as a BOM...but...since I was so pleasantly surprised with the results...I may have to re-think that! ;-)

Thanks!! One other question, before I try it. What size were the blocks that you made your 4 patch from?

The starting squares were 7 inches.

purplepamela 05-05-2011 09:55 AM

I really like it. If you think this is "ugly" i don't want you looking at my stash. lol

I do like the "slight twist" you put on the D4P. Gives it a whole new look.

clhornak 05-05-2011 10:01 AM

I love it. No "ugly" duckling here. A real swan!

Karen, thank you for much for all the information. I HAVE to make this block and I want it to be very much the same colors and fabrics as yours. You did a wonderful job of putting those fabrics together. I think it is going to make an elegant quilt. Thanks again.

AngieS 05-05-2011 12:04 PM
