I was inspired by BellaBoo's post about not wanting to work on a quilt because she didn't like it.

http://www.quiltingboard.com/posts/list/23630.page

So here is mine. My mother will have nothing but brown in her house or her clothes. So of course she wanted a brown quilt. She also wanted one made with just little strips. Later, I found out she wanted a log cabin. I swore off brown forever after this one!

Feel free to post your most unloved quilts here.

Lacelady 08-03-2009 12:22 PM

I can see why you perhaps wouldn't want to make another brown quilt, but this is beautiful. It isn't ugly, just not my colour scheme, and possibly not yours, but I am sure your mom likes it, if it is her favourite colour.

Ducky 08-03-2009 12:24 PM

Well, I have to tell you.........I really like it! I think it's really beautifully designed and finished.

STAR 08-03-2009 12:30 PM

well I like it, I think if she wanted a log cabin she should have let you know exactly what she had in mind. I think I would get tired also of working on all the brown but it came out very nice.

sharon b 08-03-2009 12:33 PM

Not my colors choice either, but it is a fantastic pattern  Love the pattern . What is it ?

I like it. It has a lot of depth. It reminds me of beautiful parquet flooring. I bet your mom is thrilled.

CajunQuilter2 08-03-2009 12:46 PM

personally I like it too. I also like the pattern. even though you did not like making it I think you did an awesome job. Is it just the colors or the pattern as well you were not fond of?

amma 08-03-2009 12:47 PM

Very Pretty!!! I like earthtones and this is NOT ugly :D :D :D
I can understand not liking to work on color schemes that do
not appeal to us, personally though!! I bet she just loved it :D :D :D

mytwopals 08-03-2009 12:57 PM

I'm sorry. But I like this quilt and the colors.

Alaskan lady 08-03-2009 01:03 PM

You did a fantastic job for not liking the colors you were given to work with. Bet your Mom has some good dreams under that quilt. Browns remind me of Autumn and fall(that might be your Mom's favorite season). Thanks for sharing.

sewjoyce 08-03-2009 01:06 PM

I think it's really pretty and your mom is going to love it! It is NOT ugly! Although brown isn't my color either, you've managed to get enough different shades in there that it's awesome!!

Baren*eh*ked_canadian 08-03-2009 01:15 PM

I have to say, I love that pattern, and it looks great in those colours. I don't like brown as a rule, I don't own any brown clothing, or any accessories. However, my wood furniture is all stained wood colour, not painted, and it looks beautiful, my bf requested a quilt for our bedroom that would compliment our white accessories and dark cherry wood furniture. I went with browns beiges and reds, I hated working on it! I don't like the colour at all and I forced myself to finish it, but I'm sooooo glad I did because it looks great in our room.

Please tell us what pattern that is!

2 Doods 08-03-2009 01:15 PM

Well, I love it and I'm not a brown lover-except chocolate!
I love the way it looks like it is layers. The optical illusion it has.
Very striking!

Debbie1 08-03-2009 01:20 PM

I love the pattern! It's not ugly at all!

SaraSewing 08-03-2009 01:22 PM

I'd be very happy with this one! Love it. Funny how we have different tasts, huh?

Kyiav10 08-03-2009 01:23 PM

I like this quilt. Though brown is not a favorite of mine either, I think you did a wonderful job on this one!!

billswife99 08-03-2009 01:44 PM

Oh my gosh! Ya'll were supposed to sympathize with me and post your ugly ones too! lol It was just a basic string quilt and I just reversed the pattern on the bottom half and it gave it the layer look.

MollieSue 08-03-2009 02:05 PM

I love it!!!!! :D :D

Moonpi 08-03-2009 02:09 PM

I love it! Paint that wall bittersweet and you'll see it's not the quilt, it's what it is next to.

zennia 08-03-2009 02:39 PM

I love it to. Both the color and the design.
One year in a birthday swap I am in I requested brown fq's. I got some real pretty ones. i love the earth tones.

Jim's Gem 08-03-2009 02:47 PM

It looks nice. Brown in not one of my fav colors, but this looks good and it's the color she wanted!!!

sewsewquilter 08-03-2009 03:00 PM

I love it.

redquilter 08-03-2009 03:02 PM

You may not like it, but I think it's gorgeous!

gaigai 08-03-2009 03:04 PM

I think it looks really rich. Like you took strips of all kinds of beautiful and exotic wood. I love it.

Eddie 08-03-2009 03:07 PM

I think it looks great, you did an excellent job on it. But I can see why you would want to meander into perhaps pastels, fluorescents, anything but brown for a while. :) I'm sure your mom loves it and it's great that you made it for her.

henryparrish76 08-03-2009 03:14 PM

Oh I simply love it. But I am a fan of browns too like your mom. :)

nursie76 08-03-2009 03:26 PM

This is NOT an ugly quilt!! Brown is usually not on my radar, blue is my fav, but I DO love rich wood grain furniture and floors and that is what this reminds me of! The design and color composition is superb. I understand that you would not want to work with brown for a while, but it really is an awesome quilt!

pittsburgpam 08-03-2009 03:53 PM

It's a beautiful quilt... even if it is in brown. I don't like brown a lot either in quilts though I do love some I've seen made from Japanese Taupes that I love and I just got a collection in brown that is kind of like that with greys.

Ninnie 08-03-2009 03:59 PM

sorry, but I also like it and love that pattern!!

Justquilting 08-03-2009 04:02 PM

I'm not a brown lover either BUT....I really love the pattern.
It really makes it pop!!

quiltwoman 08-03-2009 04:24 PM

I like it too. I don't mind the brown at all. I bet your mom loves it too.

mcdaniel023 08-03-2009 05:29 PM

I really like the quilt. Great job on something you didn't like. :)

barnbum 08-03-2009 05:34 PM

I seriously adore that quilt. :D I love the pattern too!

Bill'sBonBon 08-03-2009 05:45 PM

My DH would think that was made just for him. All his fave colors. LOL.
Actually the quilt is really nice and the colors do make the pattern stand out. It is not ugly at all but really very pretty.
BillsBonBon

jacquemoe 08-03-2009 05:55 PM

I don't think it's ugly. Your mom should love it.

tlrnhi 08-03-2009 07:19 PM

Ok, there's a pretty quilt, now where is the ugly one?
I really like that!!!

Joan 08-03-2009 09:37 PM

Shame on you!

There is nothing ugly about that quilt--it feels
very calming, soothing and "natural" looking to
me......ahhhh...... :)

k3n 08-03-2009 11:02 PM

Jenell - what an ugly brown quilt, I'm sorry for you having to work with those hideous fabrics! OK, is that better?

BTW I don't mean it - I LOVE it, I think it looks really warm and comforting AND I love anything stringy so love the pattern too! :D But I do get where you're coming from - a few years ago, I made a king size for my mother in yellow and various florals that she chose and I thought were pukey - I was glad to sew the final stitch and get it out of the house but she loves it! And no I HAVEN'T got a pic - I couldn't bear to take one! But I vowed never to let anyone pick their own fabrics again - mean or what?

Bevanger 08-04-2009 05:07 AM

UGLY????? No way. Yeah it has alot of browns, and I can see why you don't want to do another brown one, BUT it is just beautiful; I think you did an awesome job!

thismomquilts 08-04-2009 05:55 AM
