My Black/White OpArt quilt

2 Attachment(s)
One of my grandson (I have 12) likes black/white and wears a lot of black. I made him a quilt when he graduated high school and just got a chance to photograph it. Sorry it's on the bed sideways. It's a moebius strip center. The flower border underneath is another quilt entirely not part of the Moebius Strip Quilt. The wild print showing at the edge of the quilt to the right is the back of the quilt. I told him he couldn't be depressed all the time so he could turn the quilt over occasionally.

If you ever want to go stark staring insane, try matching up the outer border fabric so it is perfectly matched at every corner.

Whaaooo !!! That is soooo cool. I love the center block and I am sure your grandson will love it.

Oh WOW! Another pattern to add to my ever expanding to-do list. Absolutely beautiful - I really like the juxtaposition of the backing fabric. If he ever tires of it (never!) put me on the rental list.

That is one unique quilt, I bet he loves it. Thanks for sharing.

What a great quilt. And kudos to you on that border. I get blurry eyed just looking at the optical illusion of it, however you could not have picked a more perfect fabric for it. Can't imagine what it was like mitering the corners on that bad boy.

Annie68 07-11-2012 05:18 AM

Wow, I really like that!

Blinkokr 07-11-2012 05:32 AM

cleodaisy 07-11-2012 09:45 AM

Wow!!! I like it. How did you match the corners? Did you make the patterned border first and then fit in the black border???

Well, one border was 1/4" too long - sooooo, I took the border and sewed two of the tiny stripes in the op-art border together. The border finished out the perfect size.

Both patterns are my own - I've posted a tutorial on the Op-Art. The avatar quilt was drafted to look like an 1830 quilt in the Univ. Neb. Lincoln quilt collection - I worked from a photo (with permission) about 3" square.
