My Brain on Fabric

3 Attachment(s)
This quilt has been on my design wall for over two years and I finally , finally got the urge to finish it.

There was a bit of trouble when I got to the point of adding the circles to the center of each block. The original pattern was to have complete circles but could I do that, noooooo! Trying to sew the purple centers on proved to be a problem when they just wouldn't play nice with all the seams and they never looked like circles. Then the corner blocks presented another issue as to how to get them in place in one piece.

After two years of looking at it and mulling, and chewing on it, the solution came to me and so here it is.
By opening up the seams I was able to slip an applique circle into place and hand sew them.

The first picture: When the problem started.

Great job. That is a lot of slices in each plate. Blue center was a great choice - makes it look rich.

That's a prefect solution! This is a very pretty quilt and with all those delicious fabrics and all the motion, you must be so happy to have it complete! I love looking at it, and looking at it, and looking at it......

Nice quilt,I have a lot of small strips, this gives me a way to use them up

Tartan 02-22-2015 04:27 PM

Neat! Kind of reminds me of Thinking Outside The Box but with circles instead of Log Cabin blocks. Maybe 4 Baptist Fans facing each other in the circle would be good? Whatever you decide will make a pretty quilt!

yngldy 02-22-2015 04:44 PM

That is gorgeous! I'm new to all of this so I can't be much help on how to quilt it, but I'm a big fan of using the motion of the design to inspire the quilting. That is what I would do.

Absolutely gorgeous. When I looked at the first picture, first thing that came to mind was what you would choose for the center circle. You made a perfect choice! Your balance of the scrappy fabrics was done perfectly. Now you have to get it quilted so that you can enjoy this masterpiece.

Beautiful quilt! It makes me think of a rainbow. So glad you finished. Sometimes we just have to let a project rest a while, and the solution will come to us. Our brains work out those solutions while we sleep. 😉
