It's my choc/rasp blocks. Need to know which backings to use. The darker one has some orange or gold in it and the white is real white not off white. The other one has the off white background with a sweet pink/or berry color design. I like the pink and off white, but it is a bit light next to the sashing. The darker would look better just for light next to dark, but I don't think the color combination is right. I have a lot of yards in both and I don't want to have to wait until I can afford to purchase something else. So what to sacrifice to want or like? Help. Blessings, Ruth

I'm no help. I think they both work.
I prefer the darker one, but I would also like to eat the quilt. IT"S yummy!
My first reaction is that I like the lighter fabric better.
What color is the binding? I usually go with what matches the binding best which of course matches the top.
Either one, but I like the lighter one.
Very pretty top!!! I am also going to vote the darker fabric.
I like them both. I think either one would work.
I'd use the light for backing and the darker for binding. It would frame it nicely.
I think both would work maybe you could piece both and make it work. Its a beauty!!!
Lighter one and dark for binding

The darker would make it all stand out better.
Love your quilt blocks |
I like both too but lean towards the darker fabric because.....well because. LOL
I like the darker one but both work for me. Those are beautiful squares. I love that color combo. Thanks for sharing.
lighter one for backing and darker one for binding.
If you've got enough yardage, I'd do dark for backing AND binding.
still another idea...if you like the light with the pink but it's too brite, why not tea dye it a little so soften the white? and I like the darker for binding.
I also prefer a darker binding on a quilt that is going to be used, since the binding takes most of the handling. I am going to be NO help at all, what about piecing the back? 3 long, vertical stripes, adds interest and looks great on both sides.
As a new quilter with a complete lack of experience, I go with my first instinct, and that is light back / dark binding. Your responders seem to be pretty evenly divided in preferences, and I truly think either would work fine.
Here's another vote for the darker backing! :D
I love brown and pink/red together, but it reminds me more of chocolate covered cherries than raspberries. ;) |
Hmmmm, I think you should use the darker one. But it wins only by a slim margin. They are both beautiful.

I think the light for backing and dark for binding also
I have 2 smaller quilts since I have 2 sets of blocks. I framed them all in two different fabrics. I frist sorted out the blocks in a dark pile and a light pile. Then I took a light fabric and framed them with dark fabric and the dark blocks I framed them with light fabric. Then I alternated the light framed blocks with the dark framed ones. It is very pretty and the 2 fabrics and continuity. I hope this is clear. :)

I would use both, a wide strip of pink in the middle surrounded by dark on both sides and then dark binding. It will be beautiful!

It's beautiful! My first thought was the darker but I also like the idea of using the lighter for the back and bind it in the darker.
Are you an expert quilter? I am not, so I would use the darker backing and dark thread, hoping it would hide my errors!
I vote......darker one. ;)
either one works. Great looking quilt!
Well, I thank you all for your imput. Here's what I think I will do. To accentuate the off-white sashing, I'm going to do a wide strip of the dark fabric around it all and then use the pink as backing and bring it over to the front. That will turn the original lap size to nearly big enough for ME !!! I surely will post a picture when I'm done which will probably be several days, yet. I might start a new thread entitled My Choc/Rasp/Pink Finished .
Can't wait for another swap. Blessings, Ruth |
I would use the darker fabric for the back and the binding, would look just lovely.
Can't wait to see it done.
Who is it for? That helps me decide, if I even have choices...
I like darker....but lighter works too. |
Law child, I'm not an expert at anything. I am so in awe of the talent you ladies and gents have. I hope I can be somewhere near as good as the least of you when I grow up.

Well, I slept on it and now I'm undecided, again. Poof! ....and I gotta sleep, ya know! I love the dark as the backing and I think I might just use it for backing and wrap it around. hmmmm, I think.

Beautiful colors and quilt. I like the darker one.
