I've been working on this 9 Patch and Stripe variation, and after much fretting over the layout I finally decided on one :-) Instead of making 2 smaller quilts, I combined the positive and negative squares, hence the challenge of the layout. I'm waiting on more of the tan fabric to come in for the setting triangles and corner triangles, so parts are sewn into rows and then center is all sewn together. I also added more 9 patches along the outside, so the setting triangles are smaller than the pattern/instructions I have - darn if I can't leave well enough alone  The up side is I had enough left over blocks to piece a runner for my antique blanket chest.
I'm not sure of the border treatment yet; I'll need to lengthen it top and bottom, but I'll cross that bridge next week  I really need the setting triangles in place to calm down the pattern before I can make sense of any border ideas. Any suggestions and/or ideas are welcome, and please don't hesitate to tell me if a block is placed wrong - I've been staring at this for a while, and its all starting to morph together for me! quilt layout Fabric closeup Runner |

Cute sewing prints! And your design is brilliant--this will be a beauty!

This is fantastic, love the fabrics :D :D :D ....you mentioned to check your layout.....the bottom left nine patch and two up to the right in the row bordering the centre design need swapping over.. :D :D

Your quilt looks great. Glad you posted the close-ups. So cute.

Thank you all so much for your kind comments - I really do appreciate them! Izy, you win the prize! I caught the bottom left just after posting the picture (DH admitted knocking it down and putting it up - it just needed turned around.) Thank goodness those are just sewn into rows, and not joined yet. Don't tell him, but I'm gonna pin them to the design wall until I get done

Rest easy - the upper left section and the center section are sewn together, but the rest is just rows so I can add the setting triangles :-) |

Roben,
Very NICE!! I really like the over all design of this quilt. It's very clever. Then I had to laugh when I saw the actual print of sewing spools and buttons. Just too darn cute. Thanks for sharing as it's such a lovely quilt - I just love looking at it. Also it inspires me to get busy with one of my own projects. Linda |
This is great. So unusual
|
Very nice pattern. The tan material gives it a nice antique look. That runner is going to look really nice on an antique chest. Are you going to be keeping the quilt also so that you have the set?? Beautiful!! Thanks for sharing!
|
That is a quilt that really caught my eye. Nice job! Are you keeping it for yourself?
|
I do plan on keeping this one - its been on the wall so long now I've developed an attachment :-P The setting triangles and corner triangles all got put on yesterday, and the top is all sewn together. I'm off today to look for some different border and backing fabric. I auditioned the red button and the spools fabric, and both seem too much.
Darn, gotta go buy more fabric  |
Love the fabric choice and also the quilt top. :D
|
I love your quilt. What pattern is it? That quilt would look really good in our bedroom. Our colors are tan, burgandy, and navy blue. So if you decide to get rid of it I can send you my addy. :D :D . I can't wait to see if finished. Thanks for sharing.

ccbear, it's the 9 Patch and Stripe pattern out of Eleanor Burns' Still Stripping After 25 Years book. To get the quilt design, I mixed positive and negative patches in the same quilt - by following the directions she gives, you actually cut and sew 2 quilts at the same time which I thought was awesome. I just mixed the blocks.
DH woke up this morning, looked at the design wall and commented again how much he likes this one - I don't think he'll let it go :-) I bought a green blender fabric for the borders and backing yesterday - the dark buttons fabric is listed as navy, but comes off as black so I couldn't find a blue that worked. |
I really like it. And the fabric is so cool
|
Soon it will be time for another picture, right? :D :D :D :D
