I thought I'd post a few pics of my current work in progress, which is a quilt from the "William Morris in Applique" book by Michele Hill. Here's a link to what the quilt from the book looks like:
http://store.stitchinheaven.com/stor...risFriends.jpg I started this quilt a few months ago at a quilting retreat for our quilt guild. I worked on it some more this week while we were on vacation at the beach. It was nice sitting in the room, listening to the waves roll in on the beach as I busily cut out and fused shapes. :) I'm going to be going to India week after next on business for a few weeks, so will take stuff with me to work on it there, too. I've got the center medallion done, as well as 6 of the 20 outer blocks. After I finish the other 14 blocks, I'll start on the borders of those poppies. The quilt in the book is 78" square, but I want mine to be bigger, so I'll be adding an outer border of those poppies as well. I'm fusing the shapes and then machine stitching (blanket stitch) around the edges of the shapes. The medallion square has already been stitched, the other 6 blocks have only been fused. Lots of work still to do! This block is my favorite so far. Lots of cutting! |

Very nice! And thanks for the link, I looked at her site and then her links and discovered that the William Morris Museum is not far from my husbands house in England. So I've just informed him that we need to visit next time we're "in town".

Duh, I see you have already said you are gong to machine blanket stitch the shapes down. Can't wait to see. |
This is just beautiful and inspiring. I hope to try this technique one day.

Love your quilt, working my way through the book too. I met Michelle Hill at the Sydney Craft and Quilt Fair last Saturday, she was working on a quilt from her second book and there were several others she had made on display as well. She does not use stabilizer when she appliques with a blanket stitch and her work was stunning.
I love your choice of fabrics, I've made a number of the blocks into cushions using Michelle's fabric range but love your choice especially the background fabric- just may have to tackle the poppies next. Can't wait to see the finished article. Cheers from Oz |
those are gorgeous.

Eddie, I'm making my first quilt but after this one is finished I was thinking about making an applique quilt. I'm taking a class starting July 7th. Where did you find the pattern for this quilt? It's lovely and your colors are great. I love it! I'm new to quilting and don't know diddly about anything, YET!. But, I'm an adventurous kinda gal and I'll try anything. LOL. I'm currently making a hand stitched paper piece hexagon quilt and my first few blocks are a little shadey looking. I was going to take them apart and redo them but since the quilt will only go to family one day, I hope, I thought why not just add those little problems to my journal as to what NOT to do the next time and keep going. It will be interesting chat one day when I'm older and grayer, lol....and hopefully, have some grandchildren to share my tales with. Thanks for sharing.......Babs
