For my daughter and youngest son
2 Attachment(s)
When my only daughter was young(she has 5 brothers) I made all of her dresses and saved scraps of them thinking i would someday make her a quilt. Back in 1987 when she was over 30 years old I thought it was about time to do that. So I started this quilt with a sunbonnet pattern and embroidery. I was working, didn't have much time to spend on it….so it took me till 1993 to complete. It looks a little primitive but she loved it. I called it the "Happy Memory" quilt. I also made a little photo book to go with it…of pictures of her wearing the dresses. This was the first bed size quilt i ever made.
After I retired i decided to make quilts for the boys too. My youngest son and his wife picked out a pattern call Buzz Saw and the colors they wanted, even bought most of the fabric. it was king size so took quite a while to make and was hand quilted too…just THAT took me 4 1/2 months. Thank goodness i can now do FMQ so can quilt even a big one in a couple weeks. Since i have made the other 4 boys quilts also. They have all been posted on this site. |

They are both beautiful and I bet it feels really good to get quilts done for all of your kids! I know I would feel good if I could get that done!

Great quilts and such precious memories for your children to pass down. When I was young my mom made all my dresses, too. One Christmas I got a small steamer trunk as a gift and inside were identical dresses for my dolls that she had made. I'll never forget that and I bet your daughter feels the same way about her quilt.

Daughter's quilt is so cute. But the son's quilt is very dramatic. Love them.

Your daughter will treasure this forever, what a great mom. You did a beautiful job on it. Your son's quilt is great, love the pattern and also the material choice.

I, too, saved two 5" squares of everything I made for our oldest daughter. Little did I know that 45 years later they would be called 'charm squares', so purchased a Nickel quilt book to get some ideas, but haven't put anything together yet. It's about time I do!!! I LOVE your quilts. Thanks for sharing.
|
I love Sun Bonnets. The only one I did was embroidery in red work and one traced onto muslin & colored with crayons. I'm still waiting on a great grand baby to give it to. Your quilt is drop dead beautiful.
|
Sew nice, love them both!
