My Dead Fish Quilt

1 Attachment(s)
This was my first experience with a zig zag pattern and I didn't realize that you are not supposed to use prints with a one way design - after I did the first two rows I noticed that some of my fish were swimming upside down - My cousin pointed out that is what fish do after they expire!

Anyway I loved the colors on the original photo so I tried to duplicate them as much as possible. I made this quilt for one of the Nurses where I work that does not want to know the sex of her baby - I hope he/she enjoys it and not too many people notice the imperfections!

How funny!! But there is no "supposed to", remember. Just anal piecing if you wish it!
I LIKE your quilt; with "upside down" fish, it can viewed from either direction. So there!

Very pretty! The upside-down fish will be right-side up, when the quilt is turned around. :)

I love your quilt and I'm wanting to make one. Love the color selection !

nygal 08-27-2012 03:58 PM

It looks beautiful. We are always learning. Enjoy your pretty quilt!

LynnVT 08-27-2012 04:02 PM

Well, if you turn the quilt around, the ones that were upside down are now right side up! I think the baby will have fun with the bright colors and lively design. Tell the quilt police to go arrest somebody else!

Diane007 08-27-2012 04:11 PM

yes nice... and we will not send the quilt police

That was my thought also. Great Quilt.

What imperfections?!

Your color choices are absolutely magnificent! Who cares what the fish are doing? Maybe they're acrobats. Or maybe they're upside-down catfish. http://freshaquarium.about.com/cs/ca...idedowncat.htm

Beautiful colors, beautiful quilt!

Greenheron 08-27-2012 05:14 PM

Oh, turn it 90 degrees and the fish will be swimming up and down.:) Seriously, it's too pretty to fuss about.

Pretty. I agree. Same is true of any one way picture, you can only see one way at a time.

nls 08-27-2012 06:45 PM

I agree with other comments, when you turn it around it is right side up. Adorable baby quilt. Love the colors and design.

blondeslave 08-28-2012 06:34 AM

Really cute!

Lorraine Simon 08-28-2012 10:06 AM

Too funny. Still looks great to me.

sparkys_mom 08-29-2012 03:46 AM

I love your colors and just remember a lot of fabric is printed with the motif going both directions to avoid being a directional piece. You just did it on your sewing machine! :)

debcavan 08-29-2012 03:48 AM

The fish in both directions makes the quilt easy to view from all directions, a plus.

The colors are just so gorgeous. it is a stunning quilt

bibi 08-29-2012 05:08 AM

My thoughts exactly!

Caswews 08-29-2012 05:29 AM

I am sure the baby will like it no matter which way the fish are swimming !LOL

angelanicole 08-29-2012 05:39 AM

Very cute quilt and nice color combo, aren't fish suppose to swim upside down?

mycatsmom 08-29-2012 06:20 AM

I love your colors. It looks great.

jamsbuying 08-29-2012 06:35 AM

Great quilt.... love your colors!

majormom 08-29-2012 07:03 AM

Aren't cousins helpful?! It's a nice cheery quilt and fish can go any way they want. As one person said, with the fish going more than one way, you can view it from either direction. You didn't make a mistake at all, that was the way you intended it all along :-) Make a joke to your friend about what your cousin said and then tell her you intended the fish to be just like they are so that the quilt would look good from all angles.

MimiBug123 08-29-2012 09:40 AM

Maybe they're swimming south for the winter. Not everything has to be cut from the same mold!

Mariposa 08-29-2012 09:42 AM

Your creative quilt is terrific!

psailer 08-29-2012 11:13 AM

love the colors and i think it is beautiful and it will be so appreciated... just in case they dont like the dead fish send it my way i love it.. smile

collady 08-29-2012 11:32 AM

Upside down means that there are two top edges and two bottom edges. No right way up/down!

Grace MooreLinker 08-29-2012 12:05 PM

I like you quilt the color and prints are just fine to me. I'm sure the receiver will love it.

JJean 08-29-2012 12:48 PM

ArtsyOne 08-29-2012 01:41 PM
