DH has decided it is time for me to clean my sewing room...so, he has been adding shelves.

I now have to put the stuff in the right places, which will take some time!

These are my beginning pictures so you can share the journey with me.

Sewing Grandma 02-17-2011 06:32 AM

Know what you are facing. Have spent the past few days bonding with my fabric and reorganizing my shelves. I have 3 tubs of scraps - why is it we can't part with even the smallest piece of fabric. It is driving me nuts. Going to put in all in one tub hopefully and save sorting for a rainy day. Must get organized and back to my quilting. Just had black and white tile put in my room and it is soooo nice.

littlehud 02-17-2011 06:40 AM

My my. You have lots of goodies there. I can't wait to see the after pics.

susiequilt 02-17-2011 06:45 AM

KathyAire 02-17-2011 07:46 AM

I can take some of that fabric off your hands for you. That way you won't have to deal with so much. Because, Lord knows, I need more fabric like I need a hole in my head.

Can't wait to see it when you are finished.

grammysews4u 02-17-2011 07:47 AM

Funny how that fabric gets away from you, huh! I just redid my small sewing area, so I would know where everything is at, and guess what? I'm having a heck of a time finding anything. Haha!

babyboomerquilter 02-17-2011 07:57 AM

You have some good looking stash! Love to see the finished look. Keep us posted.

Wine Woman 02-17-2011 08:02 AM

Purplemem, you have no idea what an encourgment you were to me during the Boomerang swap! You introduced me to the Coroplast boards and that got me started! I sorted and then color sorted the fabric and started wrapping. I have such a beautiful little fabric display in my quilting room now - Thanks to you! It is such a wonderful feeling to look at my quilting space and really like it.

I know you can do it! I've seen it. Clear the surfaces and straighten those shelves (only to get more fabric on them!) and take one day at a time, a couple hours a day and work at it slowly. Before you know it you will have a beautiful quilting room again! YOU GO GIRL!

I can't wait to see the after pix.

RedGarnet222 02-17-2011 08:10 AM

Uhhh... Where is your sewing machine?? I wish I was there to help you. I love to organize.

The funny thing is, once you have a place for certain things and put them back there when you are finished, it stay's that way... pretty much anyway.

You will love having a nice room to sew in and knowing where everything is.

Have fun with it purplemem.

luvTooQuilt 02-17-2011 08:12 AM

Wow!!! I could have fun shopping in there, even with the chaos... But I have a question, and I mean no offense. Im smiling when I say this- But how does a room get like that. Besides the obvious I mean. Dont you sew in there? Dont you walk in there everyday and quilt? I do not have OCD by no mean and I have alot in my room and, and, and I seriously hate cleaning it too-yuck0- but wheres the workspace? Can you work in there like that or do you stay out of it cause its so disorganized?? I get so mad if there's 'stuff' on my work area and have to move it out of the way so I can quilt. May not be put away in its right spot but it can't be right ON my workspace or near my sewing machines, floor works good so it ends up there until it finds its put away spot.. I was just wondering after seeing all these posts of rooms in chaos..

If you send some fabric to me Just think the less cleaning you have to do.

Cant wait to see the after pictures.. YOU GO GIRL!!!!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

Barbm 02-17-2011 08:14 AM

OK MJ! I want to come and help. It is always more fun to clean someone else's home. And the fabric- oooh the fun!

And yes- where is your machine????

PaperPrincess 02-17-2011 08:41 AM

Bless your hert for posting this. Now I don't feel quite so alone!

Montana34 02-17-2011 08:42 AM

You have so much stash! I am so envious. It will look and feel great when you are done.

Seriously, it wasn't like this until DH started to reorganize. Then he started piling things to move them out of his way. I had to have new shelves because I had begun stacking my projects and fabrics.

I also had to move my queen size hand quilting frame out of the sewing room and into the living room. When that was moved, we took everything off the shelves to expand the shelving area. What you can't see is the fabric already on boards ready to go back on the shelves.

DH is hanging pegboard now to hang my rulers. It is not as bad as it looks, a lot of those piles are fabric on top of rolling drawers. They will slide under my new 4 foot long table that holds my new Accuquilt Go!

I have a whole dresser he's moved in one corner with drawers and glass shelves. That will hold my FQ's and bobbins, etc.

So, I DO have a plan of action! Time for me to WORK!

wolph33 02-17-2011 09:39 AM

that will be great when done-have fun

luvTooQuilt 02-17-2011 10:35 AM

You can do it!! Just think of all the fun you will have once you get organized and you can use your GO! I love my Go..

I give you ALOT of credit.. I started to ruler fold my fabric on my bookshelves only made it two rows of the four shelves on ONE of four bookshelves!!!

You go girl!!! We wanna see pics when your done.. or even better along the way process!!!

My offer still stands if you need more space- Send it my way.. LOL
 :D  :D  :D

Oh my, yours is still neater than mine. LOL. SO glad you joined me on the clean it up campaign. But why didn't you post it in Main so Everyone can see it. Just saying. ROFL My dh is scared to go in there. When it started going into the hall way and the second room, he started shaking his head but he knows better than to say anything....I would buy more. When I come home from garage saling and such, I won't unload the car until he goes to bed. I can't pass up a good deal.

sewnsewer2 02-17-2011 11:28 AM

Oh boy, I know I have been there before. I need to organize mine a little better.

Have fun!

Jennifer22206 02-17-2011 02:43 PM

you can do it! If you take it in tiny increments of time, it'll get done in no time!

quiltnana 02-17-2011 03:08 PM

I feel your pain. I started organizing my sewing room after Christmas its still a work in progress. My hubby bought me two cabinets to help for Christmas. Start with one area and then on to the next is my only advice. I gave away a few things and donated some fabric to Project Linus. I realized I have way to many projects to finish in this lifetime so its time to start using what I have first. Good Luck.

Sadiemae 02-17-2011 09:17 PM

It really won't take you very long.

girlsfour 02-18-2011 04:55 AM

I think your room looks like it won't be so bad to organize. The basic stuff is done like having your fabric on the little bolts, etc. Looking forward to the after pictures!!!!

sandpat 02-18-2011 06:40 AM

Oh MJ....looks like FUN to me! You'll enjoy the process and I know you'll love it when you are done! Just take baby bites out of the project...put up a little at a time. She shelving is a great start. I've tried and tried to figure out how to do my teeny room better...but I'm coming up empty of ideas. You have a great space to work with..and that great window for light....big sigh....
