OMG, I'm originally from Sleepy Eye. I graduated HS there and recently visited an old classmate there to show her how to cut and piece a top. You're only about 90 minutes from me is all.
I'd love to have you come to visit!

Wonderful! I think it's interesting that people think we will need less room when we retire, but in reality our hobbies spread out and we spend more time at home, so we need more room.

susanwilley 01-26-2011 04:50 PM

Fantastic studio! I am so jealous!

Gorgeous room. Enjoy !!!

stitchinwitch 01-27-2011 04:54 AM

ooooo cozy - how did you attach the fabric to the underside of the table? I am trying to do that with velcro and it comes right off.........

pieces 01-27-2011 05:24 AM

Great room, looks like you have everything you need.

mnesotakat 01-27-2011 06:00 AM

I love your sewing room. I'm also from Mn. living in Va. now. I grew up in Worthington. I see you're not far from there.

katlady 01-27-2011 06:33 AM

Awesome you are a lucky person to have the space for sewing, nice job of putting it together

lakesidequilter 01-27-2011 06:56 AM

Hiya Stitch:
I used industrial type craft hot glue to get one side of the velcro (also industrial strength) strip attached to the apron of the table. Then I sewed (naturally) the other part of the velcro strip to the fabric that hangs from the table. I particularly like it because the skirting hides all sorts of clutter!

SoozeeDoozee 01-27-2011 07:36 AM

Great studio, great view. I've never seen an skirt on an ironing board... please tell about that.

Quilting Pastor 01-27-2011 07:41 AM

what a beautiful space. enjoy it!

lakesidequilter 01-27-2011 07:52 AM

Hi Soozee:
As you can see, I have a "big-board" like ironing board. It came with a non-removable canvas cover. I wanted to keep it clean and also to hide things like the extra iron, cans of spray starch, etc. underneath it. All I did was make a cover for it and added the skirt (sewn to the cover) to reach the floor. I just thought it helped to corral (and hide) the clutter. I used the same home decorator (a bit heavier cotton than our quilting cottons) everywhere else in the room to give the space some continuity.
I hope that this explanation helps.

That is such a beautiful studio.

frog90 01-27-2011 09:45 AM

I love your room also. I am about two years from having my DH retired and I know we will not have anything as grand but I love looking at all of the rooms here and saving ideas for my extra bedroom (sewing area ). Some of you are so creative.

TymeToShine 01-27-2011 10:11 AM

WOW! What a dream come true! I sew on the kitchen table which means clearing everything off for meals.

SuzyQ 01-27-2011 10:21 AM

I am trying very, very hard not to be jealous. It isn't going well...

Your room is wonderful, fabulous views! Thank you for sharing.

overdew 01-27-2011 01:59 PM

Would you consider adopting a 60 year old daughter who loves to sew?

Chele 01-27-2011 02:02 PM

Wow! What a nice studio. I could have some fun in there. And on the lake and in the snow too! You are one lucky duck!

lakesidequilter 01-27-2011 03:47 PM

Kacy:
Yes, I'm nearly in the room 24/7 since I don't just stitch here, I also study and do homework here too! Of course, now with the flat screen TV (and the DH always wanting to watch either the history or Sci Fi channel) and the new sofa--I relax alot in here too! LOL
