My fabric boxes

3 Attachment(s)
I started some of these the first day the link was posted. I'm just slow in getting them posted. The dark green fabric has a silver and gold metallic pattern on it. So I used my gold embroidery thread to quilt it and added silver buttons. The blue ones still need buttons. I'll be doing that when I man the raffle ticket booth this Friday. All the pictures are a little washed out from the sun... fabrics are much brighter.

They're lovely. Would make such pretty and useful gifts.

Cris 10-13-2013 05:54 AM

So cute, great job!!!

Beautiful boxes, love your colors!!!

moonrise 10-13-2013 06:53 AM

Very pretty!

PaperPrincess 10-13-2013 06:59 AM

Love them. I would leave some of the blue ones without buttons. I think they look kinda cool with the 'ears' standing up.

lynnie 10-13-2013 08:55 AM

great baskets, I need to make a few myself

Tartan 10-13-2013 10:00 AM

Mighty cute! They do look sweet with their "ears" up. :D Add a nice napkin inside and put your rolls in for Thanksgiving dinner.

Luv Quilts and Cats 10-13-2013 10:05 AM

Very cute!

These are cute-I need to jump on this bandwagon quickly. Seeing the boxes with the corners up made me wonder--rather than folding them to the sides, has anyone thought of a clever way to fold them to the top whereby creating a box you could put a gift in? I was thinking maybe sewing some ribbon to the corners and tying at the top center. I am making some dishtowel sets for Christmas gifts and thought these would be nice to pack them in. No wrapping paper needed!

Great fabric boxes.

frenchfryqueen 10-13-2013 11:50 AM

I'm so glad you posted these! I wondered if anyone else would make them. Yours look great. I didn't add the buttons to mine and now I wish I had.

What sizes did you make?

craftynell 10-13-2013 11:54 AM

Good job. I guess I'll have to get on the band wagon & get some done also.

the littlest white one is 9"... most of the others started with a 12.5" square because that is the size of my square up ruler :) i varied the sizes of the corners from 1 3/4" to 2 1/2". i think the 2 1/2" is too much because the box is tall and skinny... i can only think that it would be for pens and pencils

Sue Fish 10-13-2013 12:15 PM

Very nice..lol bet they hold a lot of candy?!

Nanny's dollface 10-13-2013 12:17 PM

Love those little boxes. Yes, I too joined the band wagon and started making one. They are so easy and way to cute.

duckydo 10-15-2013 03:40 AM

They are so darn cute! I do need to make some for my sister and sister's at heart!

Retired Fire Chief 10-15-2013 04:21 AM

When I saw the blue ones that aren't folded down I immediately thought boy those would be great baskets for warm dinner rolls. I have yet to make one but the more I see the more anxious I am to make one. Yours are great!

yes, this is a great idea. but i would make that one shorter by using a shorter triangle for the corners.... maybe 1.5 or 1.25"

twinkie 10-15-2013 05:25 AM

Those are great. I am just starting mine.

Jordan 10-15-2013 05:29 AM

I think these fabric boxes are adorable. They sure are a hit with everyone. Yours are very nice. If I didn't have so many ufo's going I would just jump in and make some. Hope I don't get weak and break down and put everything else on the back burner and try one of these little boxes. Maybe after the first of the year. I think they would be so cute to do seasonal ones.

mjhaess 10-15-2013 07:47 AM

Very, very nice. I too like the ones with ears -- it would hold taller items. I made one, but it didn't come out looking as nice as yours. I might make a few more in Christmas fabrics. I started with a 10" square, but think I'm going to use a 12" for future ones.

I feel like such a slacker - haven't made any!! But they are on my to-do list!

MargeD 10-15-2013 11:01 AM

You have indeed been busy - great job.

raspberryparade09 10-15-2013 04:44 PM

These are so cute!

QandE2010 10-15-2013 05:40 PM

So nice. The last picture reminds me of crocus flowers.

RedGarnet222 10-15-2013 06:05 PM

How neat! I love that you really went for it with so many.

wordpaintervs 10-15-2013 06:30 PM

first of all, Nan...I loved the fabric boxes you made and the colors. Was it difficult. I'd like to make a few to replace the ugly plastic, etc and put different things inside. Would be fun to see all that color as I sew.

secondly, Swede....I agree that would be a two in one gift...not just for dishtowels, but maybe sewing notions also. What a clever thing to think of.

Thanks for posting your fabric boxes Nan

So I tried a breadbasket. I started with 12.5" squares and used a 1.75" corner triangle. I used a very stiff batting, almost too difficult to birth it. I think this is a good size for a breadbasket.
