My Favourite Quilt
2 Attachment(s)
I finally finished this quilt. It was quite the journey. It started with a minky backing that my mom bought for Christmas in 2009. I matched fabric to go with it from a pattern in a magazine. The quilt was a square and so I made it up and decided it was too small, so went back (to the states I might add) and got the tiny bit more fabric I needed to add another row. The problem was that I had used a piece from my mom's stash in it (white with little black polka dots in even rows), but hey its a common fabric I'll be able to get it anywhere..... WRONG! Took me a long time, long time and many stores to find it. Was giving teeny pieces of it to people to keep theirs eyes open for me. Finally found it on a trip to Nova Scotia in a little quilt shop off the beaten path in a kit for a table runner. Purchased it and finally finished the quilt top.
Took me a while to get around to quilting it (was scared to use the minky backing), but finished it recently and absolutely love it. Only wish it was a little bigger to go on my bed.... next on the wishlist is a bed size quilt with minky backing!!! It bothers me a little that the pattern is not symmetrical vertically, but what can you do! |
It is darling.

Beautiful!!

Beautiful colors. I can't believe you went through all that for a bit of fabric! You are so much more patient than I can imagine I've ever be. Guess you'll need it if you're going to tackle a bed size Minky quilt! See, that's where my impatience does me in....I wouldn't even consider it. You could handle it though, if this quilt is any indication--you did a beautiful job.

Wow that is a great minkee! Love the quilt - colors, pattern, everything! I didn't notice anything being off vertically...?
|
Your quilt is beautiful! It must be very cozy with the minkee backing! Great job!

Very pretty. Sometimes we drive ourselves crazy for no reason.
|
It's gorgeous...well done, great effort.

I think it's gorgeous and looks like you planned the pattern the way it is! I had to go back and see what you meant by the colors not being even but they looked like they were meant to be that way. Very appealing to my eyes! You've been looking at it to long! Way to be faithful too, that you'd one day find the fabric you needed!

Wow....isn't it funny the great lengths we will go through to have exactly what we need for a quilt!?! It was definately worth it. Beautiful job.

What I meant was that it is different in each direction, in the picture the top row has 2 pink blocks and a green block, but if you flip it over it has 1 pink block and 2 greens. My brain seems to think it would be more visually appealing if it was the same in both orientations.

Your quilt is bright and cheerful.

really cute!

Sew cute and happy!

great colours together

Beautiful, looks great to me. I love the brightness of it, perfect backing too. We are always harder on ourselves than others.
|
Your persistence paid off...and it was well worth the effort. (I have been afraid to try minky--not to mention how expensive it is if I mess it up.)
|
very nice like the colors!!!
|
You went through a lot to finish this quilt! It is beautiful!
|
I love it. Great, great colors. So happy and bright. I was going to say I don't know what you mean about the vertical thing, but upon reading other posts I see you explained it. I don't think it makes a bit of difference. I'll take it off your hands if you're that unhappy! :)

Bright and beautiful!!!!<style id="_clearly_component__css" type="text/css">#next_pages_container { width: 5px; hight: 5px; position: absolute; top: -100px; left: -100px; z-index: 2147483647 !important; } </style>

Very nice. I love the colours. Was the minky hard to sew with? I have heard it is.

It's beautiful.

Love it. Any tips about working with the minky? I am making each of my sons quilts for Christmas and using the minky as a backing. Tops are together-just waiting for me to have a stretch of free time to quilt. I am a bit nervous to start the quilting on my home machine but I am assured it can be done.
Any suggestions will be appreciated. |
This is so beautiful. I love the colors and the black in it just do the thing! Thanks for showing.

Really cute!!!! I looks like great - worth the effort. Thanks for sharing!

Looks like you did very well - nice

You created a beauty of a quilt. I feel your pain, I started my first sweatshirt jacket and as I a bigger woman the pattern had to be adjusted to enlarge, well my favorite fabric would have been enough but now it isn't. I don't
remember where I got it. You did a great job. and me, I am afraid of minky..lol Karen |
What a pretty quilt. I love the Minky back.
|
Just adorable, great job and thank you for sharing.
Have a Blessed day Ellen |
cute quilt, love the bright colors.

I don't see a thing wrong with this--colors--vertically--it is beautiful! We are too hard on ourselves!
|
It is really pretty - of course anything with pink always takes my eye! A long time making it, but wasn't it worth it?
