My first attempt at paper piecing

1 Attachment(s)
I have wanted to try paper piecing for a while now, and today was the day. I downloaded a beginner block from the Carol Doak website and this is the result. Just a block to hang on the wall over my sewing machine. By no means perfect, but it is a beginning. I can see how this could become addicting. LOL

MommaDorian 05-10-2012 12:20 PM

It is definitely addicting!! I love Carol Doak's patterns. She has a yahoo group too. Lots of great advice and patterns.

You did really well ! I am addicted to paper piecing... so many possibilites that would not be easliy done ( or done at all)using conventional piecing methods.
Don't you just keep looking at the points and marveling!

newbee3 05-10-2012 02:17 PM

Great Job If my 1st attempt went that well I probably would have done it again lol

Helen S 05-10-2012 03:34 PM

It's gorgeous! Love the colors. I just started playing with paper piecing myself and really love how it turns out. I used printer paper my first try but didn't like how difficult it was to remove, so just bought a a couple of kids' doodle pads at Dollar Tree as someone on here suggested. It's much thinner and will tear away easier, I'm sure. Can't wait to get back to it, and we're supposed to have some really hot weather the next three days, so think I'll hunker down with my sewing machine and the A/C on and have fun!

Ritzquilts 05-10-2012 03:50 PM

looks good on a flying horse...lol

nannyrick 05-10-2012 04:11 PM

Beautiful work!!! You are on your way.

dove911 05-10-2012 04:11 PM

Isn't it wonderful when those paper pieced points come together precisely at the right spot? I like paper piecing, but am not sure I could make a large quilt using only paper piecing!!

Tartan 05-10-2012 04:16 PM

I love how paper piecing is so exact. Your PP is beautiful!

Ditto! This is a littl gem... mine was a hot mess... LOL! Someone mentioned hanging this on your Christmas tree. It would be so pretty in holiday colors, wouldn't it? Yum! Makes me almost want to try it again... almost...

catladyquilts 05-11-2012 04:38 AM

paper piecing is additive.

mighty 05-11-2012 05:29 AM

Beautiful, you did a great job!!!

Delta 05-11-2012 05:37 AM

wonderful wonderful. Just remember when you trim the seams be sure the darker color is under the white or
it will show through on the top and you won't catch it until you have to many pic sew together. Trust me on
this one, it only took a couple times and I am careful now. lol:thumbup:
