My first attempt at paper piecing

1 Attachment(s)
This is the first I've tried. I think I'm going to be doing more paper piecing. My son asked me for a Mariners Compass Wall Hanging for his new apartment in Korea. He will be leaving in a few weeks to teach English for a year. It will be his first apartment by himself. Luckily the school provides the housing. He picked out the fabrics, wanted sepia tones. The center is not perfect but a lot better than it would have been if I had tried just piecing it.

Great job, I've not attempted PP yet, but have read, watched, and collect many ideas on it. Good luck with his new Experience in Korea. My daughter also did that right after college in China. Hope he has better luck than she did.

tessagin 08-12-2014 06:06 AM

I agree with Tartan. Hope that you can get the slight waves on the edges out with steam and starch. GREAT job.

AllyStitches 08-12-2014 09:25 AM

Looks great!!! The center looks fine to me. :-)

cashs_mom 08-12-2014 09:37 AM

That looks great! I did some paper pieicing last weekend and once I got back into it, I realized how much fun it is. I hadn't done any for years.

QM 08-12-2014 10:01 AM

You did a good job. It should help your son when he is so far from home.

woodyandjake 08-12-2014 10:36 AM

You did a wonderful job and your son has good taste in colors.

brandeesmom 08-12-2014 10:11 PM

Oh how beautiful it came out! PP was my first ever quilting thing I did. Love to PP!

DOTTYMO 08-12-2014 11:35 PM

Cover the centre with a button or similiar . Have you hit it with a hammer, it does make it go flatter.

What a difficult first in paper piecing to do, love it.

Plumtree 08-13-2014 02:21 AM

it looks fantastic!!! Can't wait to see it all done :-)

redquilter 08-13-2014 02:53 AM

Very good...especially for a first attempt! Pats on the back for this one. Your son will be comforted to see it in his new 'digs' far from home.

Awesome ! Thanks for sharing

brod71 08-13-2014 06:02 AM

It's gorgeous. Was it difficult? I haven't tried this method yet and somehow it scares me.
