My first Bargello

Look what I did while I was waiting for some batting to arrive :D

This started life as two packs of 8 colour-graded fat eighths.

The same day I bought these, someone on the forum mentioned the Bargello-Sketcher free software, so I downloaded that and had a play :D.

The centre section came out at about 52 inches by 28 inches - a size which is no use to anyone lol. The shop had no more of the original packs so I had to colour-match as best I could, and added the curved log cabin blocks and border. The piece ended up at approximately 60 inches square.

I'm really pleased with the warmth of the colours together.

I feel there's at least one more bargello in me.... he he

Thanks for looking.
Cheers, K

What a wonderful improvisation. I've been wondering about that sketcher. I have it downloaded but haven't really looked at it seriously. You've encouraged me to give it a go.

Love your idea I want to make a full size bargello quilt, but not all bargello. Diane C.

rryder 09-29-2016 05:17 AM

Good idea using the log cabin blocks to increase the size of the quilt. They play very nicely with the Bargello section.

Hi there, thank you all for you great comments, it means a lot to me.

As for the Bargello sketcher program, I simply did a Google search and it came up straight away.

the info section on the program doesn't mention working with Windows 10, but I took a chance anyway and yes it does work lol. It includes a great how-to section which will guide you very easily.

It will let you scan in your own fabrics, but I just used the supplied generic colours. You can draw simple curves and have the program mirror it both horizontal and vertical.

I did draw a lot of curves before I found one I was happy with..... Lol

regards, K

I love the colors in your quilt and you did a great job in color matching. I made a bargello quilt for my granddaughter when she was in high school. I also made her a beautiful wedding quilt but she says the bargello is still her favorite. I'd like to make another one someday.

huntersgrammie 09-29-2016 09:05 PM
