Shame on Eddie
Because of him you have a beautiful quilt. Your color choices are perfect for this pattern...you must be thrilled. I think I need to find his post to find the name of the book. Beautiful work

That is a beautiful quilt! Your colors are fine!

Sheila Elaine 02-25-2010 05:12 PM

Rachel, your bargello is simply breathtaking. Take a bow on this one & stepping out of the box was scary at first, right? However, you did it, you learned & I don't see one mistake from where I sit. Will anyone in particular the recipient of this beauty, or will it be yours?

jniblett 02-25-2010 06:09 PM

if that's your first, can't wait to see #2
that's beautiful how hard was it to made??

Definitely! :)

I can't wait to see your finished one! I know it's become a total pain in the rear for you but it's going to be worth it when you have a gorgeous finished project!

It'll be worth it, but it's not going to be nearly as beautiful as yours!!!

I used a few batiks in this one and actually that was my first time working with batiks. I'm not totally decided if I like working with them, but they're so pretty I'm sure I'll use them again, many times, down the road. I bet a bargello made totally with batiks would be gorgeous. Make sure and post pics when you finish yours!

I wasn't a fan at all of batiks til I just made this quilt I'm working on. It is all batiks and I am so in love with them now. I get it. I get why everyone loves them. And you're right ~ an all batik bargello would be gorgeous. Let's get Eddie to do it!

And I like the idea of the "Blame Eddie Club". I know my wife and daughters would want to join! They already have their own chapter here! :D :D :D

Rachel & I will be Presidents of the Satellite Chapters of BEC.

Thank you so much for your kind comments. This quilt is actually for my mom. It was originally going to be for Mother's Day but I'm going back home for a short trip next week (I live in MS and all my family lives in WA) and decided to work hard to get it finished before I left. I never get to give gifts in person anymore and I would really love to give her this in person. Hopefully she'll like it!

LoL, we can get Eddie to try out new stuff for us, then blame him when we like it and make one ourselves. :)

Quilter7x 02-25-2010 07:15 PM

Oh most definitely she will Rachel and she's going to be so proud you made it! :D

You should try a bargello for sure. They're thankfully one of those patterns that look way more difficult than they actually are. Most important thing is to really pay attention to which end you're supposed to start sewing from and which way to press your seams.

NauDeeGal 02-27-2010 02:37 PM

Wow Rachel ! That is an awesome quilt that you made! Love the fabrics/layout! I have a bargello on my list of projects to do also! I really like this pattern that you chose to do. I have not made up my mind as to which pattern I want to try first. Decisions, decisions.

I think the colors are perfect. What is the name of the book that is something I'm going to do myself this year I did a color splash and it was fun.

Delilah 02-27-2010 04:55 PM

Absolutely beautiful!

The book is "Twist and Turn Bargello Quilts" by Eileen Wright. It's a good book, has great instructions (except for the mitered corners instructions, not so great) and several patterns that I'm likely to make in the future.

Still having some trouble with wavy borders, and these borders needed mitered corners so there was another challenge, but in the end it wasn't a total disaster so I consider it a success. :)

I challenged myself to do more free motion than a meandering stipple so on the main part I did vines with leaves. The small border has a lace like pattern and the outside has a simple string of flowers. I'm proud that I made myself step out of my "safe zone" and try something different. Sorry about the flash on that picture. My pictures were coming out with a weird blue hue so I used the flash. I didn't remember until I was back inside that I had my white balance set on "inside".

On to the next project!

Wow that is gorgeous.
