I never heard of crumbs before--then I happened upon this site and decided to start doing something with my bags of crumbs! I had alot of fun doing it. My "rope rug" started out as an oval but ended up being more round. This "site" has me doing things I never thought to do. I have decided to make a rug to match every quilt I piece. Have you noticed I said pieced?? I am attempting to machine quilt and I'm finding it very difficult but I will perservere. Back to my crumbs !!! Anne

geckogirl 05-30-2010 07:30 PM

Oh my goodness that rug is one of the COOLEST things I think I have ever seen!

How did you make that!?!?!??!

sueisallaboutquilts 05-30-2010 07:30 PM

I love both!!! How did you make the quilt rug?? What a great idea!! I could wall-to-wall carpet my whole house in them with all my scraps!!!:D:D:D:D

Honchey 05-30-2010 07:32 PM

It's in the Tutorials under Scrap Rugs I think

Honchey 05-30-2010 07:35 PM

After I had seen the tutorial I had to make some. I now have 3 in progress. When I'm not on this site I'm wrapping rope. I have a few quilt tops that I want to make matching rugs for.

raptureready 05-30-2010 07:40 PM

Love the quilt blocks but majorly love the rug.

quiltilicious 05-30-2010 07:43 PM

excellent stuff!

I've been making rope bowls. It's probably the same technique as the rug but you angle the rope after the bottom is finished.

dkabasketlady 05-30-2010 07:58 PM

Very nice crumb quilt and awesome rug!! Making the rugs has been one of my favorite things to do, probably more than quilting!!

just_the_scraps_m'am 05-30-2010 08:09 PM

earthwalker 05-30-2010 08:33 PM

Love your crumbs...'specially the cat with the fiddle peeking out. The rug is lovely...must look into how to do that one day...the list is long!

MegsAnn 05-30-2010 08:51 PM

Oooh fun. How big are your crumb squares?

kwiltkrazy 05-30-2010 09:06 PM

Love both of your projects. So cheery and bright. ;I've been trying to use up my scraps too. It's quite a sense of accomplishment. Sort of I did this for nothing.

sharon b 05-30-2010 09:06 PM

And you thought we were for quilting only  LOL

Looks like you are having a great time learning new things... I have to look into that rug tute

Very nice, I really like the rug :!:

pollyjvan9 05-31-2010 04:58 AM

I had to stop reading and go the tutorials. I just offered to give away a lot of my scraps. Not taking anymore names, going to make rugs. Have grandsons a lot in the summer, going to have them wrap the rope for me! Maybe even sew them.
BTW love the quilt also.

Honchey 05-31-2010 05:30 AM

HI , I made them 5 inches square. I was afraid to make them any smaller. I made a promise to myself to make at least 4 of these babies before I do any other sewing--at least until the scrap pile goes down.

littlehud 05-31-2010 08:09 AM

Your blocks are wonderful. And what a pretty rug. This place is inspiring.

thismomquilts 05-31-2010 08:16 AM

First let me Thank you for sharing. Love both projects and am finding lots of new ideas.

As for machine quilting.
I just got a new sewing machine, :) that sews and quilts,
and I find that it makes machine quilting easy.
It is a Janome 6600. It has a special quilting foot and dule feed. (I think that is what they call it) Which keeps the material from gathering and wrinkeling.

Just love the machine, to bad we had stormy weather today so I unplugged the machine

Hi, I find myself sharing all the new techniques with my sewing buddies. I had a part time job with VSM (Husqvarna Viking). Now, I only work when someone needs a day off or goes on vacation. I still teach some quilting classes when I get the bug to do so. I have their current top of the line machines, Diamond, DSE, HuskyLock 936 plus an assortment of others. I quess you could say that I collect them as well as Fabric for quilting. I'm even checking out the featherweights on ebay! I really enjoy this site. Everyone is so friendly and nice and helpful and, and , and I could go on and on. Your machine is a great machine. I also have a little Janome that I travel with and I just got a PFaff that has the IDT. It really does quilt well without a walking foot. Oh well, I have really veered of this subject and I have to put up my Tutorial about the binding. Have fun with your machine. One thing tho especially being that it is new to you-- Read your manual first. Then read it again while you are sitting in front of your machine. This way you can familiarize yourself with everything the book is describing. It's a Hands on Lesson that helps you to remember better. Anne
