My first few quilt tops...
3 Attachment(s)
New here, just wanted to share the first few tops I've done since March. The pink/blue/purple top was my very first - I'm looking forward to using all the different pieces to practice FMQ. The black/purple dragonfly top is the second. It's one of two for my two girls (other will have a light purple border)....its folded in half, the size kind of got away from me! And the last one is my favorite. I have enough fabric to make two, one for me and one for a friend. I had to graph a pattern out myself to make it work with a stack of charm squares and my fussy cut outdoorsy guys.
(looks like the pics aren't uploading, I'll keep trying) |
In order to post pictures on Quilting Board, you will probably need to reduce or compress the picture to a file size that is smaller than 2MB. How to post images can be found at https://www.quiltingboard.com/attach...020-01-17-.pdf
Don't forget to scroll over to the far right to find and click on the "Upload" button. Janey - Neat people never make the exciting discoveries I do. |
Thanks! That did the trick. The upload page said max file size was 5mb.

Welcome from Wisconsin. WOW your quilts are all very nice. I really like the first one -so bright.
Welcome from southern California. Your color sense is wonderful and these quilts certainly don't look like beginners. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do next!
All of your quilts are beautiful and you certainly have been busy since March. Wonderful workmanship.
Welcome to the QB from SE Michigan!! Your first 3 quilt tops are beautiful! I love all three of them. The Rail Fence #2 is perfect and the last one is so much fun! The first one I hope you keep so you can say years from now this "was my first Quilt". Great Job!! Just jump right in and join the fun.
Welcome to the quilting board and to the quilting world! Looks like you are well on your way, and I'm sure your girls (and your friend) will love their quilts! Way to go!
Welcome to the QB. Nice tops... love the one with plaids
First one is stunningly beautiful, all the others are beautiful too.
All look great! I'd say you've been busy.
Love your quilts. The colors in them are very soothing and fun at the same time. And I really love the Muscle Guys!
Great tops!
Congrats on your very first quilt ! Looks like you are off to a great start. You are talented with your color sense. Please show us more.
Looks like you are enjoying your new hobby...wonderful finished tops. I’m sure you will do a nice job quilting them.
You're doing a great job!! I particularly like the first one, the colors are just fabulous.
for making your first quilt tops you are 1) very fast and 2) very good!
All 3 are so nice! While the guys on the 3rd one are not my style, I love the way you have set those!
You're definitely on your way to a fun hobby. Great job on all three. Those guys are really cute!
Welcome from Illinois.your tops are really pretty. Great start!
Very pretty quilts. I like them all, but especially the outdoorsy guy quilt.
Excellent work!
You did a fabulous job on all three and it looks like the "quilting bug" has gotten to you too. The recipients will love them.

Thanks everyone! These comments taught me something. Even if I don't love a project, I should lovingly see it through because somebody else will! I nearly abandoned the pink top. My daughter picked the colors and then decided she wasn't that excited about it, and they really aren't my style. I had the blocks paritally together for a long time and just recently threw them together paying no attention to matching the seams because it was just going to be a FMQ practice quilt. Now I wish I had taken more time with it.
Part of the appeal for me with the third quilt is how aboslutely ridiculous they look https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png I laugh everytime I see it. It's also what inspired me to try quilting. I was joking with a friend about how silly the fabric was, told her I had to buy it and had no idea what I'd do with it, maybe make some throw pillows. She begged me to make her some too. I decided to try my hand at quilting! Now I have 5 works in progress and 10 times as many swirling around my head. I'm itching to start the next step but the Juki I just got has a defective pedal....so its just been sitting there taunting me until I can get a replacement. |
Ha! Your third quilt is great. I love Alexander Henry! I like your layout - it makes great use of fussy cuts.
I was trying to explain this line of fabric to a friend "Hi, we're firefighters/woodsmen/cops/sportsmen/wolves/construction workers/etc - without shirts and just posing against stuff for no reason." |
Wow! Great job on all three.
I love them all but the first one is my favourite
Welcome to the board from NE Ohio, beautiful quilts.
Very nice, I love the fabric choices.
I really like the colors with the purples and blacks what a great combination.
Welcome from Maine, your dragonfly quilt is absolutely gorgeous, I just love it. Your "outdoor" guy quilt is like nothing I have ever seen, and it's awesome. It made me chuckle because all I could think of was snuggling under it reading a romance book.
Welcome from Northern California. Your quilts are super. Love the last one is looks like so much fun.

All are lovely, good luck with the FMQ

Thanks for the comments everyone! Since my pedal came in, I've finished 2 quilts, made another top, did the cutting for a new one, and practiced a little FMQ. Its been fun!

Those are wonderful quilts especially since they are your first! I'm impressed. Love the dragonflies - my favorite!
If those were your first quilts, you better keep quilting, lovely,
Great toips!
They're all beautiful, but the second is my favorite. You just showed me that Rail Fence quilts don't have to be bland!
Lovely quilt tops! Your fussy cut outdoorsy guys are charming. I have some of that purple/dragonfly fabric. I like what you did with it.
Great job, I like the layout on each one. Good distribution of color!
