Here is a table runner (Moda Bakeshop pattern) I just finished that I tried out FMQ for the first time on. I quilted it last week on my little Brother machine before I knew I was getting a new machine this week. I would have waited if I knew. I did get to put the binding on with my new Bernina though. Wow, what a world of difference in those two machines. (Which I hope would be the case considering the price difference between them!) I still have a lot of improvement to do with my piecing, and of course with my FMQ, but gotta start somewhere!

Up close of stitches, look away if it hurts to much to stare at it! LoL

Just had to show off the pretty stitches in red that my Bernina made.

Beautiful! Welcome and I love your avatar!

Ducky 01-13-2010 02:51 PM

Your FMQ looks wonderful! I still haven't gotten up the courage to try it. I've made little sandwiches to practice on, but haven't made the time yet to work on them.

Jingle 01-13-2010 02:51 PM

Very bright and you did a very good job. Hurry and piece something else so you can FMQ it on your new machine!!!

lisalovesquilting 01-13-2010 03:01 PM

I wish my first time had looked so good. Nice job.

I made up half a dozen sandwiches or so and practiced on those before jumping in on this runner. My first sandwich looked like my sewing machine had become possessed. LoL I had some unattractive stitches here and there on the runner but overall it turned out better than I thought it would. I'd have to say you should just go ahead and give it a try. I bet you'll get the hang of it quickly. Here's to us both getting better at it!

You did a great job! Congrats! I too need to make and take the time to practice.

Well I practiced on about 6 or 7 little sandwiches first, so I guest technically this isn't my first free motion experience. It's the first "non-practice" item I've free motioned on though. :)

MamaBear61 01-13-2010 05:43 PM

Wonderful job and nice brights colours too

cande 01-13-2010 05:45 PM

Do you sew over a pattern or just totally free hand movement?

mytwopals 01-14-2010 02:09 PM

You did a real nice job on your free motion.

Stitchnripper 01-14-2010 02:17 PM

You did a great job.

This was just some free hand meandering. Twist here, turn there, that kind of thing. :)

Thanks everyone for your nice comments! Hopefully someday I'll be able to post pictures of quilts that are half as amazing as ones those of you have made.

Dkm 01-14-2010 03:02 PM

Good job. You'll love that Bernina. I have two and work both of them to death at times.

I am not a huge fan of table runners but this is so cheery and colourful, I can see a tea service on top and a plate of warm cookies ready to be enjoyed by family and friends. BTW, I love your black and white photo of baby and you.

newestnana 01-14-2010 05:52 PM

I plan to go shopping for a new sewing machine very soon...can you tell me about the one you just got?

Your FMQ is impressive!!!!!

I actually don't care for table runners either. My house is waaaay to informal for something like that. But I saw this pattern on Moda's Bakeshop website and I just loved it. I'll find some other way of displaying this.

I actually have a thread in the Main section that I started last week (or this weekend maybe, can't remember now) asking about the machines I was considering. Here's the link; http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-33831-1.htm

My husband surprised me Tuesday with a Bernina 440 QE, which was my first choice of machines but it was more money than we were looking to spend. I was looking for a used one and had seen a few but was prepared to be looking for awhile.

Anyways, there's a lot of good advice on that thread. Good luck in your search!
