Your quilt is beautiful. I can totally relate to your situation. I am legally blind, I don't drive or work. Quilting is pretty much my only outlet these days. I do everything by feel. Is there another way? That's how I taught myself. Although I didn't loose my eyesight all at once, I know how it is to have to re-learn everything. You are doing a super great job. You are an inspiration. Thanks for sharing!

It's the stubborn in me and you that makes us figure out a way to get things done. Otherwise, we'd just sit around and do the "woe is me" thing all day and waste away. Necessity is the mother of invention. I'm always figureing out another way to do things I used to be able to do with ease. Where there is a will, there is a way! Part of my mantras.

I know what you mean about the "woe is me". My Mom (who is now gone), and my one brother are like that. I can send the same joke to my SIL and my DB. Her's comes back "Wow that was great. Thanks for the laugh!"

His comes back, no reply about the joke, and something always bad. It is a private (not any longer) joke between my husband and I to see what he'll complain out next.

I look at it as there is always someone worse off than me, otherwise I wouldn't be here to complain at all.

Plus the disability has strengthened my periferrial (sp) vision quite a lot. And I do use my hands for touching and feeling. I feel the seams to see if they are straight.

I never realized it until my husband mentioned that I put out my arms to the sides in crowds as people keep running into me.

:) :)

beautiful, love the colors. Great job.

Shirlx 04-17-2010 05:14 AM

There are no mistakes in quilting just sewing variations.Or that so called mistake was intentional to fit my personalization making of the quilt.

Karen's Kreations 04-17-2010 05:27 AM

It looks wonderful - you did a great job. Keep it up.

I'm sure you are getting lots of encouragement from this board. Let me add mine to it. Keep at this "addiction" called quilting. You have done great on this first quilt. Just think of all the people out there in the world who are just waiting for someone to make them a warm lap robe. You are it!!!

Nanjun 04-17-2010 07:55 AM

Wonderful and I know you will get better as time goes by

Great quilt-love the colors I work with very sick patients and it is always the stubborn ones that surprise us all. Being Feisty helps also. Try another one.....

diannscrafts 04-17-2010 08:15 PM

Great job, I love the colors. Just goes to show what you can do with a littl determination. My mother always told us kids you can do any thing you set your mind to. It may take a little longer but you can do it. Never give up.

gzuslivz 04-17-2010 08:49 PM

Good for you! My mother is 81 and has been sewing since she was 5 years old. Her mother taught sewing for the Singer Company and made party dresses for the wealthier ladies in town. Well, my Mom got macular degeneration and is now legally blind. She is unable to read, but she still pieces quilt tops. We have a dear friend that quilts them for her at a reduced price. The quality of her work isn't what it used to be, but these later quilts are even more precious to us that the more perfect ones she made when she could see. I encourage everyone to keep doing what you love and when you can't do it anymore, love to do something else!

Pat G 04-17-2010 08:53 PM

I admire your spunk. Your quilt is beaut. Keep it up since it will be good therapy for you.

you did a absolutely beautiful job, and you never have to explain your self. what a lucky little girl to have such a beautiful quilt. God bless you. Penny

KiwiQuilter 04-17-2010 10:36 PM

Well I think this quilt is fantastic. You have done a superb job.

SassySewer53 04-17-2010 10:37 PM

I am amazed! Lovely work and colors in the quilt. Keep it up. Your determination to quilt inspires me to keep crafting.

Mom crochets to pass her time and makes sweaters. Diabetes is taking her vision. It is the same feeling as you have for quilting.
