This is another gift for my mom for Christmas. It's the first purse I've attempted. The pattern wasn't the best and I struggled with it. No picture diagrams at all and some lines that they called for you to sew in the pattern weren't even printed on the pattern pieces. I think it turned out nicely, enough so that I feel okay giving it as a gift.
The front has two little hidden pockets (second picture). The inside has a couple different kinds of pockets though I'm not crazy about how the lining is attached. It's just attached at the top, the sides and bottom are loose so it's kind of scrunchy inside. Colors are a little washed out due to camera flash. |
Great job. I am sure she will like it.
|
Great job, I would love to have it.
|
that looks really lovely. I think it turned out awesome.
|
Oh my, what a lovely purse and the inside is to die for! All that room and compartments, too. You did such a lovely job sewing this. :)
|
I love those colors. The inside looks like suede in your photo. You might want to consider adding one more line of stitching in the center of the very bottom. That might help eliminate some of the scrunchiness. I've done that before, it's fairly easy if you take all the extras off your machine first to make some room to fit the purse in the space and put several safety pins in place. (They don't bite if they're closed.) Don't make yourself crazy about making the seam go from edge to edge. Just get a seam or two in the bottom to help the lining stay put. You can also do this with needle and thread.

Looks great...love the colors. Did you put a hard bottom in the purse? If not, you could make and cover one, putting it in the bottom holds the lining down and gives it some stability. I just guesstimate the size, try it, and adjust until I am satisfied with the fit. Plastic canvas is cheap and water friendly. Make a little pillow case cover from one of the fabrics, slide it in, and there you go. Your mom will love that you made it for her.

I looooove diamonds, and of course we all know they are a girl's best friend :D Love the purse, very rich looking!! Last summer I found something in New Orleans that combined two loves, chocolate and diamonds. It was a pair of earrings, just studs, called chocolate diamonds. They were diamonds with the prettiest cocoa color to them. Dear hubby was all set to buy them for me thinking they couldn't be more than eight or nine hundred. The price tag gave us both a shock though. $3,800! Needless to say I didn't take them home. :) |
You did a great job...and this is just your first. Keeping going and keep sharing your projects. I love this color combination.
|
Great job on that purse!!

This purse is truly beautiful and you picked a tricky one for your first. Your color choices are fabulous and your attention to detail is excellent!
I think you will find that nextime if you use an iron-on fusible web like Decor Bond by Pellon ON THE LINING it will add great body to your lining and it won't look so scrunched up. You can also get some great tips at http://www.lazygirldesigns.com/ Joan's patterns are excellent with color step-by-step photos. Check out her gallery and blog. Blessings, Peggy |
