This is my first attempt at quilting many years ago. I made this quilt from a pattern piece mom had bought a kit. We both like mine better. Hers was kind of plain with no prints. I have made several quilts over the years but just for special occasions. Just started quilting again.

There is a deliberate flaw in my quilt. My mom told me when I was 16 that no quilt should be perfect. Aside from the errors sewing, can you find it. LOL.

Must give credit to my mom (ann_1939) who did the quilting. She did an excellent job and I still have the quilt 35 years later.

Nice job! Beautiful quilt!

AlwaysQuilting 05-06-2011 03:30 AM

I can't believe this was your first quilt!
BTW I was told sort of the same thing. "Only God can make perfect things". I think it might be an Amish saying.

granky 05-06-2011 03:31 AM

Yup...see a white diamond on the upper right star point...beautiful quilt though....

SueDor 05-06-2011 03:32 AM

Annaquilts 05-06-2011 03:37 AM

Stunning!

cjomomma 05-06-2011 04:10 AM

You did an awesome job on your first quilt all those years ago. I did see the diamond too but it looks like it's suppose to be there.

See it now, didn't before. Your quilt is beautiful. Very ambitious for a first quilt.

Jaos 05-06-2011 04:13 AM

What a beautiful quilt! I agree with cjomomma, it looks like the white diamond should be there.

MimiLinda 05-06-2011 04:15 AM

Really beautiful. You did a good job. I don't look for character squares or pieces, I see love and beauty when I view quilts :D

quiltingaz 05-06-2011 04:29 AM

Nice job for first quilt. I never have to build in flaws. They just come by themselves. I guess we can't make a perfect quilt even if we tried, because we are not perfect.

skitter 05-06-2011 04:30 AM

Beautiful quilt! I love the reason for adding the flaw in, I may start that myself. Thanks for sharing.

jtquilts 05-06-2011 04:35 AM

I am often blown away with 'first quilts' that are shared on this forum! What a wonderful quilt! And to still have it. I gave my first quilt to a friend and she still has it hanging 25 years later!

rusty quilter 05-06-2011 04:48 AM

Wow! That is a beautiful quilt, and a tough pattern.

clem55 05-06-2011 04:55 AM

lovely

quiltinghere 05-06-2011 04:59 AM

Beautiful! Didn't see the 'flaw' until you pointed it out.

Cottontop 05-06-2011 05:00 AM

You and your Mom were so right. The prints really make this quilt! Your first quilt? What could you possibly do to top it?

"Granky" showed me...otherwise, what flaw???

Grandma Peg 05-06-2011 05:02 AM

Great first quilt.

timepasser 05-06-2011 05:50 AM

Beautiful Job on your first quilt!!

bisseau 05-06-2011 06:14 AM

Very ambitious for a first quilt...I'm still at the "sacrificial quilt" stage. Beautiful quilt.

labug 05-06-2011 08:10 AM

Beautiful Quilt!

StitchinJoy 05-06-2011 08:12 AM

That's a difficult pattern for a first quilt! Good job!

MrsM 05-06-2011 08:34 AM

Ditto!

RevPam 05-06-2011 09:40 AM

Wow! When you started, you started at 100%. What a difficult first quilt, but by golly, you did it!

lynnsim 05-06-2011 09:56 AM

Awesome! You did a wonderful job, especially for your first quilt.

Sharon - NC 05-06-2011 09:58 AM

Wow, what a hard quilt to make as a first. You did a great job. I had to really look to find the "flaw" ... the white piece.

grammy6 05-06-2011 11:55 AM

Beautiful! This was quite an undertaking for the 1st time around  Great Job!

jhoward 05-07-2011 03:29 AM

First quilt! Nothing like starting with a challenge!!!!!!
Wow! I don't purposely put flaws in my quilts, they just happen!

zennia 05-07-2011 03:43 AM

WOW your first quilt was quite an under taking. What a treasure.

cyniree 05-07-2011 04:26 AM

I've often heard that too. But we had a speaker at our quild who came from Amish quilters and she said that crediting that saying to the Amish is not true. She said the Amish would never presume to think that they are so perfect that they need to "trick" God into thinking they made a mistake, and would do the very best on the quilt that they could - because he wants us to do our best. After all, it's only a mistake if you did NOT intend to make it. If you put it there on purpose, it's a design decision. So, don't worry about having to put a "mistake" in future guilts - you're not fooling God anyway!
And your quilt is lovely! Great job.

I missed it on the first study of the quilt. So it isn't that obvious unless you are looking at it. First quilt - oh my. You did a wonderful job.
